I agree with that interpreation; i'm not sure how many other ways one could look at this song but im interested in finding out. Especially seeing as i perceive my life as an illusion- a pack of 'beautiful lies' where 'i'll find myself in the end'. Yeah- Leto IS a songwriting genius. I think he ranks up there with Maynard James Keenan.

This is like the point in your life when you realize everything you've done up to this moment was just dumb. After you finally realize that, you just kind of go over everything in your head, over and over. Thinking about what might've been, what should've been. After you go over everything, you just kind of decide "I'm going to dot hings differently now." =)

Perhaps he's in effect fooled himself by denying the things that he is "starting to believe", therefore living a lie of some sort.

He couldn't face everything in his life so he made up lies, and so the lies became his life. Finally it was all uncovered, and he indeed did "hit rock bottom". So there is nothing to lose in his life, he has to face all the lies he created and find himself while dealing with life itself. he knows now he won't give up and go through the same thing aain. he has to deal witht he truth.

He's figuring out who he really is when this whole time he thought he already knew but turns out he didn't. He could have made a lot of mistakes and told so many lies that he's ashamed of and he's looking back on it. The lies he told make up his life and he doesn't like it whatsoever. Hitting rock bottom really opened up his eyes and now he's turning to God and telling himself and God that he'll do better and make things right somehow and in the end of it all, he'll be a better person and he knows he can do it. Where it says, "I'm in the middle of nothing and that's where I want to be" He's saying right now, things have gotton so bad that he may not feel anything anymore, everything is just too much for him that it just seems worthless and it's nothing to him anymore and for feeling so stressed for so long, it feels good to have relief in nothing cause you have nothing to worry about. This makes sense to me, and I hope it makes sense for you guys too cause when I try to explain this part, it seems like it makes no sense at all.

I think this song could mean something different to everyone. But the way I see it, it's basically saying that life is a journey. A journey to find your self in the end. It's about living life to the fullest after making mistakes. I know people are going to believe differently as they do with alot of 30 Seconds to Mars lyrics because they are indeed very complex but this is the way I look at it...

I think this song is about him reaching a point in his life where he has to really look inside himself and see what he's become. I think he kinda realizes that his life has been a lie, so now he has to deal with the process of figuring out who he really is. I think the lines, "this is the story of my life, these are the lies I have created," sound like he is confessing all the lies to someone, whether it's himself, the people around him, or to God. (Some parts of this song seem a little religious to me.. If this part is intended to be as a confession to God, it seems like after realizing the lie his life is he is putting it all on the table and being judged maybe?) The repeated line, "And I swear to God I'll have found myself in the end," is a desperate promise (to himself, I think) that even after how fake his life has been to this point, he will figure out who he really is.

This song really reminds me of 'Donnie Darko'. Its the story of his life. He has created so many lies in the lost lonely world that he lives in. How his opinions and priorities have changed, and how he wants to stay in the darkness because maybe it is a little safer down there. In the end, he finds himself.
