	okay i just downloaded the demo, and its like okay, not what i was expecting. and whats the difference between the demo and the real song? WELL all i have to say this songs meaning is obvious, and did you know Metallica has a song with the same name, and it is freaking hott_hawt stuff. yeah this song means like dont fcuk with me or i will fcuk you up, or something along those lines. i thinks its a slap in the face to terrorism

	Here's a direct quote from Nick Hexum: "The title track is about emotional volatility when you feel like your freedom is being encroached upon" I think the song came about because of nick hexum's liberal and anti-bush nature, and his disgust over Bush being re-elected. I think the "you" in don't you tread on me is anything that makes his freedom feel threatened, like the patriot act, ect. By the way I like the final version more than the demo. The major difference was that the demo had a rap in it by Nick which I thought was generic and oddly thrown in. It flows much better without it in my opinion.

	dont tread on me is the libertarian motto. a lot of libertarians think things like drug use should be legalized and governed by the people. in other words libertarians belive drugs are a victimless crime and doing drugs only hurts yourself and that should not be illegal. basically this song is about the legalization of pot. it's funny because a lot of 311 fans are liberals not libertarians, and they are on the oppisite ends of the political spectrum.

	i dont get it, everyone unanimously agrees on here that the demo kicks ass in comparison to the final release, and proportianatley, that means a big percentage of listeners would say that too, so whyd they change it for the worse? doesnt make sense

	"Some days it seems its not worth it The fight in me is all gone And I'm not trying to be perfect But just get one damn thing done" Pretty self explanetory, some days, it seems that life sucks and nothing goes right, he's tired of it and he wants to give up because he doesn't have the strength or maybe the will to keep working and pushing for what he wants. He's not striving or even attempting to strive for perfection, merely trying take things slowly as they come to him, one at a time. "Before I lose control I pick myself off the floor" He's hit rock bottom and he's about to take the final step (suicide?) but instead decides to keep on keeping on. It's all a person can do sometimes, you can't always let yourself feel horrible and down even though sometimes you just to feel sorry for yourself and wallow in your pain and hurt. It's probably fine to a certain extent, you're sad or angry and then you need to get over it. "Never come a day that I solve you Consequently I could never leave you" Perhaps he's saying to her 'You know what, I don't understand who you are, I don't think I'll ever figure you out, but I don't give a fuck, I still love you and need you and cannot be without you in my life.' "In the shadow of those looming battleships I love our canoe" And here maybe it's that there are all these huge things happening around them, all these problems and other shit going on in the world, and he's thankful that she keeps him grounded and is there for him, she keeps him in this comfortable space that is only theirs. "Im ready for the falls And those still waters we will find are truth" I feel this part represents like he'll find their truth there, as in he'll learn whether or not they can hack it as a couple. After the shit hits the fan and the 'waters' smooth over, what will be left of what they once had, will their love be stronger than ever, or will all the problems they encountered have weakened their relationship to the point where they feel maybe they're better off apart? "Oh there's a clock in my head And despite what it says Another one on the wall They dont agree at all" The clock in his head is maybe saying he should get married? But the 'one on the wall' (hers I'm assuming) is like "Hell no!, therefor not agreeing with his time schedule.' "And theres a schism in me And despite what you see You might see me as calm But I go off like a bomb" Here it seems to me that he's trying to be cool with her, but he can't take much more of the way she is to him at times. "Oh in the comfort of strangers You dont see the danger Of just letting it flow This I know" And here it's like maybe she's trying to turn to someone else because she's not ready to commit to him and to the relationship, she can't let it be just yet even though she knows thst she loves hima nd is absolutely crazy about him and would do just about anything for him. -It's a cool song, it piqued my interest enough for me to go out and by the album which is very good, my favorite track on there is probably WHISKEY AND WINE it's such a great song, the lyrics are decent, I can relate to them, the vocals are intrguing where they're singing on top of each other's voices. Also there are quite a few different types of music styles on the album which I feel is a plus since I like most musical styles and certainly what's on that album, I like. I dunno, I'm just talking out my ass.

	i think its about a situation in a relationship "Never come a day that I’ll solve you Consequently I could never leave you" he´s saying he cant get over her and the last part of that verse "In the shadow of those looming battleships Love, our canoe I’m ready for the falls And those still waters we will find are true" for me that represents the arguements and every bad moment tipical of every relationships. the falls, the waters we will find are true is like problems are part of relationships too and heres the best part of the album "Oh there’s a clock in my head And despite what it says Another one on the wall They don’t agree at all And there’s a schism in me And despite what you see You might see me as calm But I go off like a bomb"
