I love this song and the more I think about it the more it reminds me Amber and what Amber is REALLY about (not a girlfriend). Either way I LOOOOVE this song as with all other 311 "Love song's" whether they be about a girl named Mary or a plant called Mary........

I'd have to say this is one of their best. Kind of sounds like Barenaked Ladies, hm? As for the meaning of the song, in general its just someone talking about how cool his girlfriend is. Catchy tune, I like it, good start to summer song. :)

This song is so awesome. I was listening to it with my boyfriend and everything just seemed so perfect because of this song. I absolutely love it. Just everything about this song makes it great, just like any other song by 311.

Please don't compare 311 to the Barenaked Ladies ever again. This is quite an evolution from the days of Music and Grassroots, but really if you listen to those albums they both have mellow tunes with the same sorta reggae feel. Some "old-school" fans must not really be true fans. I've been listening to 311 since I was 9 and I have just enjoyed the journey they have taken me on, through the rockers of the Blue Album, to the incredibly transcendental vibes from Transistor. Old school I am but 311 is staying true to themselves and few bands still do that, and you have to respect them for possessing such a rare quality. Enjoy them while you can, and leave the naysaying to the naysayers.

it's actually entitled "Abducted", and I wish I had seen them livce when they used it as a concert intro, but the newer intro "Are you ready?" is straight with me.

I love this song! The name "First Straw" caught my attention ever since I saw it on 311's site. This is the meaning I get from it: You know how there is that phrase "that's the last straw!" Well this song is about a dating relationship between a guy and his girlfriend. Too often we don't resolve relationship problems when they first arise, we wait until the problem becomes so big that we cant take it anymore and then we say "that's the last straw that broke my back" and we explode with anger and ruin a good relationship and then break up. In this song, Nick and SA explain a better way to handle problems in a dating relationship. They say to watch out for the "First Straw", or the first little problem that arises, and resolve it while it's still small, rather than let it become a bigger problem. That is what keeps a perfectly good loving relationship from going wrong, and I would agree with Hexum that there is no reason for getting to the last straw stage at all. I would quote some of the lyrics, but the lyrics and song imagery are pretty self-explanatory. This song is so deep, yet so simple...and absolutely beautiful! 311 keeps adding to the list of their awesome reggae love songs along with "Purpose","Amber", "Give Me A Call", their Cure Cover, and "First Straw" is yet another memorable one! Musically and lyrically, 311 is the most original band I have ever liked and they are my fav! Reggae On 311!...errr I mean...Rock on 311! LOL j/k
