I believe this song is both about being a loser AND being addicted to drugs. I think perhaps this individual is a loser and this is the reason he is addicted to the drugs. I mean there are no lines in the verses that wouldn't point to certain drug addiction. none. However, the chorus is totally about being a loser... I believe it may be a loser's cry for help before he takes the eternal leap of no return (OD/wasted life etc.)

This song seems to be about peole pushing the loser around the "You’re holding the rope and I’m taking the fall" seems like it's about the fact that these people are in control of this guys life and what happerns to him. Almost like they have the choice to save him because they know he needs help but instead they don't because they just see him as a loser and not worth saving. And instead push him further It sucks when people push others to the edge and don't have a clue about how serious the effects of their could be.

I think that this song is self explanatory. It is about feeling alone, thinking you're a loser...that no one likes you. It could mean that the person is depressed and suicidal.

Loser is one of the best if not THE best by 3 doors down. I have always been the guy who never had the right things so Loser is one of my theme songs. It definitely is about a person who just aint gettin anywhere in life.

i agree with xfakter to an extent. I mean I thought for a while it was only about being pushed around. But then I looked at the line "The Buzz of this poison is taking me higher". What else could that possibly mean? I don't know if the two meanings are connected but maybe 3DD intended for the song to have a double meaning as one can relate to it one if not both ways in some cases. Cause everyone feels like they are alone and being pushed to the edge at some point. 3 Doors Down are lyrically and musically amazing and I wouldn't be surprised if this was an intended double meaning.

Did Tool ever cover this song? I downloaded an mp3 from Kazaa labeled as a cover of this song by Tool. It's this song, played on acoustic guitar. I'm not sure if the singer is Maynard Keenan from Tool or not. Does anyone know anything about that?

i really can relate to theresa cuz i am the school loser but anywayz i think this song is talking about how you don't want to kill your self or hurt yourself but theres always people who are pushing youy closer to the edge and its like it says" your holding the rope and i'm takeing the fall" thats like saying to those people that you know if i was to die you'd problay feel pretty shitty about it cuz you'd be the one to blame You’re getting closer, to pushing me Off of life’s little edge Cause I’m a loser and sooner or later You know I’ll be dead You’re getting closer, You’re holding the rope And I’m taking the fall Cause I’m a loser

I am pretty sure that the song is about the ups and downs of a drug addiction...he nows how low he is and how much of a loser this makes him, Breathe in right away, Nothing seems to fill this place I need this every time, Take your lies get off my case Someday I will find a love That flows through me like this He needs this to survive and he wants everyone to leave him alone....and one day he'll find love that is like the drugs and like the drugs it will fade and he will need more and the part where he says : This is getting old, I can’t break these chains that I hold My body’s growing cold, There’s nothin left of this mind Or my soul Addiction needs a pacifier, The buzz of this poison is taking me higher This will fall away, This will fall away is showing how much this has taken him over and how he only feels good when he's high, but its just the drugs and not a real feeling so it'll fade away and he is gettting closer and closer to dying and he knows it and he is a loser who cant fight against his own addiction......at least that is how I interprit the actual lyrics...the sound of the song to me reminds me of a relationship that you are fully dependent on and you'll die if you lose it......later

Makes me think of my ex. I still love him, and he's over me. It just kinda reminds me of stuff that someone would think of as their getting drunk, and starting to just think about how their must be something wrong with them and how they are a "loser".They think that someday they'll find someone they love that loves them back and the pain will "fall away". They feel like what they feel for that person is killing them. Basically, it's about loving someone who doesnt love you and it makes you feel like shit.

Hmm, I'm not too sure if its about a drug addiction or him just having a low self esteem and thinking lowly of himself(as the singer always seems to do in songs). I relate to some of this stuff in this song about the being a loser part, I used to really have a low self esteem and felt like I didn't deserve nothing but death, this song was exactly how I felt almost. It sort of reminds me of how we're all rough on each other espcially the kids of the times, putting each other down and such that all leads to feeling the same exact way as this song states. "Your holding the rope and I'm taking the fall, cuz I'm a loser sooner or later you know I'll be dead" and it also mentions how they are "pushing" him. Blah put simple its about a person who only wants to fit in and is an outcast and just gets picked on over and over again by everyone they're all pushing him so he feels like crap and has a low self esteem for it, or a Drug Addiction. Either way I really relate to the chorus...

u might call me a pessimistic s.o.b but i am i know people know it they like throwing things at me they call me names they think they shall own me they think they can kill the spirit within my soul but you can not the heart and the desire to go on and keep going thats why i decide to go on don't worry what people tell you the quote " Nice guys finish last " aint true because nice guys are going down so try to be your best and love yourself keep your friends close but keep your enemies even closer!!

i dont what other ppl have to feel bout it but even i relate to the song in a way...it says repitively i am loser....its a strong confession to ones own self....its and act of giving up when other pushes u to the edge...and theres no scope to retrieve back to life.......but i luv this song.....it just speaks about a situation we all face.....its true...

To me, it seems like the singer is referring to substance abuse...that doesnt mean that for you guys it can also mean being made fun of at school, I just think the singer was referring to drugs when he wrote the lyrics to this song.
