Lyrics:
Verse:
It's down to this
I've got to make this life make sense
Can anyone tell what I've done
I miss the life
I miss the colours of the world
Can anyone tell where I am
Chorus:
'Cause now again I've found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I'm so far down, away from the sun again
Away from the sun again
Verse:
I'm over this
I'm tired of living in the dark
Can anyone see me down here
The feeling's gone
There's nothing left to lift me up
Back into the world I've known
Chorus:
'Cause now again I've found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I'm so far down, away from the sun
That shines to light the way for me
To find my way back into the arms
That care about the ones like me
I'm so far down, away from the sun again
Verse:
It's down to this
I've got to make this life make sense
And now I can't tell what I've done
Verse:
And now again I've found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines to light the way for me
Chorus:
'Cause now again I've found myself
So far down, away from the sun
That shines into the darkest place
I'm so far down, away from the sun
That shines to light the way for me
To find my way back into the arms
That care about the ones like me
I'm so far down, away from the sun again
I'm gone

I don't know if tdawg is that far off. I went and saw 3DD in Grand Rapids a couple months ago and the intro to this song was basically that this song was written at a time in the lead singers life when he didn't really know where to look, he had all of things that were so great, but he still felt his life lacked direction and he kept trying to focus on having more until he finally snapped out of it and realize that if you live your life trying to always get more and you never take a second to appreciate what you have then you are never going to be at peace and it is going to be a very depressing life. He didn't say outright that God was what brought him peace, but he did say that this song was written about the time in his life before he found that inner peace. Some of the girls who were standing by me kept saying, "Is this a Christian band or something?" after most of the descriptions of the songs and I had to explain to them that they weren't technically a Christian or religious band, but that musicians write about things that have influenced their life and I think that this can definately be intrepretaed as a Christian song in the fact that if we get drug down into believing in materialistic things and basing our lives on what others think that we will never truely be happy. I don't know about the whole sun/son double meaning.

This is the best song that i have heard in a while. It's one of my favorite by them, besides going down in flames, and i think that this song really does show what some people go through. I also think that lightening is right, he isn't "suicidal or some shit." This is one of their best songs, in my opinion.

This song, to me.. is about someone who's been in depression before. Mind you, not everyone goes into depression.. Sure, everyone gets sad, but not everyone gets depressed. Anyways, the song seems to be about someone who's been in depression, came out happy.. and fell back in again. He knows how "wonderful" life is outside of depression, and longs for those days again.

Decision making. That's 100% what I get when I hear this song. Like the guy has something hugely important to do, and it's driving him nuts not doing it, he feels alone without it. When I hear it, I picture a guy leaving for the military and having to tell this girl how he feels. I love this song. I dont' get much depression in this song, but more making choices. I don't know, I could be completely off (i ususally am) but that's the sense and feeling I get!

I'm seeing a correlation with Plato's: Allegory of the Cave. If you're interested...google it and check it out.

This song is great. It seems to me that the word "sun" actually has two meanings in this song. When he talks about living life "Away From the Sun" it has a double meaning. He is saying that living life without Jesus, the Son of God, is like living in darkness (away from the Son/sun). In John 8:12, Jesus says "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life". That's what this song is talking about - how dark and depressing his life is when living away from the Son/sun. Then he talks about how the light (provided by Jesus, the Son of God) guides him "back into the arms that care about the ones like me". He is talking about how the light of Jesus leads him back into the arms of God, where he finds comfort. Isaiah 40:11 says that God, "... tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arm and carries them close to his heart;" That is the picture I think of when he talks about finding his way "back into the arms that care about the ones like me". Great song!!!

THEY AREN'T A CHRISTIAN BAND - just to let you know. I love this song so much... my fav band is 3DD and I know so much about them. The singer and lyrics writer (Brad Arnold) was depressed... it's a song about being depressed. He is so depressed and nothing can help him. He can't be pulled out of the depression and the line "Back into the arms that care about The ones like me" - That means people who are also depressed only know how he feels. Very talented song writer! 1 2 Next

This song is great, like all 3DD songs. I think that the personin this has been put down so much and critized hes lost all view of everything, and the sun. Hes isolated himself from people to stop them hurting him and everytime he tries to get back on his feet his memories wont let him. Im probs wrong

Hes at a crossroads. And its not the first time in his life he has felt this way. Hes searching for happiness and fullfilment in life and somehow he got off course. What does his life mean? Who has he become? Sometimes he feels "so far down" like no one can get to him. Hes all by himself. Deep down he knows that the sun will shine on him. Hes just lost his way. He knows where he wants to be but needs help finding his way. Kick ass song!

Three Doors Down is one of my favorite bands... in most of their songs I can find a line or two that apply to my life... particularly the lines "I miss this life, I miss the colors of the world, can anyone tell me were I am" To me it sound like he is refering to a breakup or a fight with someone important to him. But that is just me... more inputs please!

The song is supposed to be referencing life aboard a submarine. How dark it is, and not knowing ever what is going on in the world outside. How did they ever get involved in such a life that takes so much out of you.

This song is about how he misses the life that he once had. He doesn't like the person that he has become and he always finds himself "away from the sun". He wants to stop doing the bad things in his life that make him feel that way but he can't and he feels like he is trapped somewhere where the sun can't reach him and no one can help him. Kind of depressing but its a great song.

This song is awesome! I absolutely love it. When I went to The Better Life Foundation Concert 3DD said that this can be related to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Being one myself, I think that this relates perfectly because so much was lost. I was very fortuneate during the storm. I think that this song can me that he is far away from God. That he misses the once happy life when everything was so simple. The video shows a boy trying to climb a mountain. So maybe this could symbolize the troubles of growning up because he goes up a tall mountain with weight on his back. Also he has his father yelling at him, some punk looking kids trying to make him fall by throwing rocks at him, and then some girls laughing at him. Thats my opinon. God Bless America!

This song is about depression, missing when you enjoyed life but now it isn't great anymore and you feel an emptiness inside, the singer must've been here once before and is now down again and wants to find a way up but he can't seem to find anything that helps anymore... I've been there many times myself, this song is an awesome song, one I can really relate too.

Dude, this song is mad awesome. The only thing is every time I hear this song, I kind of get depressed, which I guess is the motive of the song, since the dude sounds like he's freaking suicidal or some shit. Nevertheless, it's a good tune, and I'm surprised that no one has posted a comment yet.
