Steven Tyler wrote this about how frustrated he was with the band. They were doing a lot of drugs at the time, and tensions often ran high, especially between Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry.

...forgot about the Stones....they have a few also....So, best American rock song ever written. No worries....makes you feel wreckless, and wanna F@*K, while driving at high speeds. What else do you need from a rock song?

Tyler didn't have any kids at the time he wrote this! well I'm pretty sure anyway! its deffinitley about Elissa (perrys first wife) the man said so himself! i love the verse "Some sweat hog mama with a face like a gent Said my get up and go musta got up and went Well I got good news she's a real good liar 'Cause her backstage boogie set your pants on fire" Its just quality! I'm also pretty sure Dream On may have been written about elissa, perry and steve and the tensions and feelings between them!

This song was written by steven tyler about Joe Perry's wife who was always interfering with the band affairs & who often patronised steve. Steven sends out the nessage that one person ain't gonna change him. Cuz there are thousand others who love to see him & joe perform together.

I belive that in this song the steven tyler was singing about the feeling he had when his beautiful children were born i think the sweet emotion he talks of is the one he felt inside when he first seen his children enter this world.

This is one of those songs when, say you are driving in a car, and you are about to pull up to your house, and then this song comes on. You can't help but keep on driving. The beginning is really a drug-induced haze of guitar work, then opens up to a chanting chorus and a whole lot of guitar riffs. "Sailingallalone" is right, this is one of the best American rock songs ever. I really don't take too much of the meaning of the song, but, come on, it's Aerosmith! Sex and drugs, baby, sex and drugs!
