| I never thought of the lyrics like that, but it does kind of make sense. I thought the song was about like, kind of a sense of paranoia, with the drums playing double time the song has like, an urgent kind of feel, and the line "I'm tired, so tired, so tired! But there's someone here with me" means that he is not really alone, and even though he wishes he could be left to himself, he can't because there is something there with him. I don't know, that's what I got out of it | |

| i think this song is about in the midst of all of life's struggles, there's someone or something there in which you can take comfort in. "Again and again they blend into one, my father the morning pushes through moonlight love. " the "morning" could be the people who aren't pleased with the way he dresses or with what he's involved in(maybe his father?) and it's pushing away the "moonlight love" that he gets from other people like him who understand him. "So what's sleep? Sleep. I'm tired, so tired, but it seems that there's someone here with me. " he's been so dragged down by the people who don't approve of him, but it doesn't matter because he's with people who truly understand him. "We are the wakeful, wry, watchful. We're awaiting. Deathless ones. " he's describing himself and his trusted friends. they aren't fooled into becoming part of the crowd. They know that others may beat them down, but a change is coming and they can overcome those who have done injustices to them. They will never be brought down. They are the "deathless ones." "A story at three with the shrillest of cries." At the peak of their suffering, they rebel. "My mind fights with the sparkles in the corner of my eyes." he feels so lost of confused by these people who won't accept him without knowing who he truly is "I hear the morning choir sing to me their elegy. So beautiful. They sing to me their elegy. Requiem." but at the hardest times, there is something or someone(the morning choir) that brings him hope and relief. With his hope renewed, he can continue his fight and go on. i don't know if davey wrote these lyrics with the intention of this being their meaning or if you interpret them the same or not, but that is part of the beauty of afi. people can take so much meaning from these songs in so many different ways. afi are a band like no other. | |

| I'm not sure as to exactly what the meaning is. It's the most perplexing of all, but I think that gorgo13, is on the right track. One thing I really like about Davey's lyrics is the fact that no matter what they mean to him, they can mean whatever you want them to mean to yourself. Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of how I've changed throughout my whole life, and how it's going to end, and what I'm still waiting for to happen, etc. I'll stop before I start to cry. | |

| This song is about death. Not death only but about going to a hell or mabey heaven if there is such things. If you think about it everything in our lives has three cycles... Death is the third cycle of life (birth, life, death) . So the title could be explained that way. Sleep in many forms of literature represents death and when hes tired he "sleeps" and realizes that hes somewhere else and theres someone there... Also he sees sparkles in his eyes and cant believe it (heaven possibly). Then the chorus "wakeful, wry, and watchful, awaiting deathless ones means probably demons or a means of hell because wry means a variant of the right or proper way of things (hell). So there waiting for him I'm guessing. Also elegys and requiem are songs or poems made for people that have passed on and he can hear them sing it so it means he is elsewhere than this world if he is dead. I personally think this is a brilliant work of art might you say and afi is one of the greatest bands ever. Any interpretations of this could help you and thats whats so great about it. I just think this is the deeper meaning of the song. Hopefully I've helped.. | |

| How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! | the more i look at this song i do think its about death...at first i thought i was about immortality...because the whole deathless ones...now i think its more about death...and someone elses death...probably someone close to davey...because "[his] mind fights with the sparkle in the corner of [his] eyes" meaning he's crying...now simple the whole idea of throwing the sleep thing makes me think this could just be about depression...and there fore this could be the death of his spirit or soul...because when youre depressed u tend to either sleep a lot or very little...which seems to be his case...and the fact that the elegy is being sung to him makes me think that its not truly his death, though we always see our souls as seperate entities so thats still a possiblity, because if it were his death it would be sung for him...and as for the requiem at the end of the song, a requiem is a song for the dead, an elegy is a poem...so i think that he's just basically stating this is a requeim...no more no less.. | |

| elegy is a short song that is mournfull or sad Requiem is a song or poem haveing to do with the spirit. by the way its "wakeful, wry, watchful, we're awating.(period) Deathless ones." i understand this song but its hard say what is means... but speaking of that feeling some of you get, i get it to with me it starts on "i hear the morning chior their elegy" (i hear my followers sing to me their sarrow) i have let this song and the feelings stay in me and build up to the point were i had an OBE, i was taken to a place that was dark and cold with a faint light, i could hear distant singing (so beautiful sounding it scared me) i liked the experiance. at this point i felt a wave of mixed feelings the strongest being urgency. i got so uncomftable i found i was back in body, but i feel i should have stayed. if it ever happens agine i'll just try to ride it out to the end. i don't really understand what happend much but i'am sure it means somthing (as most things like that do). this experiance was almost a year ago FYI. i know you might all think i'am crazy, but by whatever means nessasary i will always try to find the meaning of AFI's songs. by the way i very much agree with articia678 about the meaning of this song... but i feel that there is somthing deeper here. | |
