this is my fav AFI song-the guitar and drums are great....and yea its about touring, but it could also be just about life in general....."What new friends will the day bring? One for one thousand acquainted. What new home will the night bring? When it all comes down you just throw the bones. " Think about it.

We have all heard many/all AFI songs and we still question their true interpretation. The only one who truely knows their meaning is Davey Havok. Let's just leave it at that and not critisize and analyze every single AFI song and enjoy their music for what it means to you, and you only.

I know what you mean about the solo, it is so fucking good, one of my favorite solos to hear or play. It always sends chills down my spine in a very good way. Probably my favorite song on The Art of Drowning besides Despair Factor.

SixtoEight27- Are you a little lost? The point of this WHOLE SITE is to discuss what a song MEANS to whomever is posting. I'm going to leave you with two pieces of advice dear, one I'm sure you heard from you're mother or someone's mother. "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything." and "It's better to remain silent and though and idiot then to speak and remove all doubt." And I agree, this song is about touring and how hard it can be on him (lack of sleep, no real home, etc) but it's worth it to see all the happy fans. 1 2 Next

discarnate, thats an interesting point, but where does the number 8 come into your equation? Also, that last part about the chills & something waking up? Whats that? Just curious..

what allstar al said makes perfect sense but i'am surprised that none of you got this: notice 6-8 (six to eight) skips the number seven. you may say "so, big deal" but maby you don't know the meaning of the numbers. 6 is the number of man, the imperfect, sinfull "and on the sixth day God created man." 7 is the number of completion, perfection "and on the seventh day he rested." maby you've heard of 666. santanic you say? hmm, well its just the number 6 three times, writen three times to cancel out the father, the son , and the holy spirit (God) basicly it trys to say that man is more powerful than God. so 6-8 skips the number 7, skipping perfection. it's kind of unlikely that 6-8 refers to the number of months they are on tour that about a 90 day differance, but its possible. now that you know what six means "Six figures enter; they've come to destroy the world" has a new meaning. but the song does look like it is talking about their shows. these chills could be somthing wakeing up... (don't be surprised if somthing does)

It's a fan appreciation song.. Think about it! The six figures are AFI, and two of Davey Havoc's friends, who go on tour with them. The storm.. Is the concert. "I wrote words for you to keep".. Kinda self explanatory.

I think the touring idea definately makes a lot of sense, but I agree with rawkshow that the song can also ne about life. "What new friends will the day bring? One for one thousand acquainted. What new home will the night bring?" I think that that line is talking about the uncertainty about what life will bring next.

I never really thought of the whole touring idea but that's obviously what it's about. Very clever when I think about it. Another amazing AFI song, with a lot of clever metaphors.

It's about touring: AFI tour 6 - 8 months a year. Now you know that, most of the lyrics will make sense. Six figures - the band and their techs/roadies. The storm - tonights show. Familiar voice with strangers face - the crowd singing the lyrics? One for one thousand acquainted - Davey meets lots of people (fans) but only finds friendship in a very few. Your fire makes it all worth while - it's worth this hard life, just to see the fans having fun. Wrote words for you to keep - wrote lyrics between shows. Lost myself along the way - overwhelming lifestyle? AFI taking over his life? Getting carried away by it? Fucking great song.

This will be my wedding song. Granted, it's not about anything like that, but something about it holds that kind of meaning for me. It's fucking great.

allstar al has it down. its all about the AFI life and touring. some people say the beginnig is supposed to represent the armageddon. maybe he is using it as a metphor for the band.

The "On the way, I saw five hours of sleep" and "What new home will the day bring?" are literal...he gets little sleep, and doesn't know where he'll stay the next day. The "6 figures enter" bit...counting all the past and present members of AFI, we get 6, if Davey is excluded. This might be him saying he feels he is less important than the instrumentalists. The "When it all comes down, you just throw the bones" line could mean a coupla things. It could be referring to the Eastern tradition of throwing bones, or sticks, and relying on how they fell to decide things, indicating that in the end (when it all comes down), Davey still believes their success, or the live performances energy, is essentially down to luck, no matter how much preparation or practice they put into it. It could also be Davey's protest against his fame...the "bones" could be the musicians in the band, the bits which support the body as a whole (AFI), but in "when it all comes down", they are thrown away, forgotten, because everyone concentrates on him.

i tend to agree with the toout theory. it makes sense, 6-8 months..blah blah blah. "On the way I saw five hours of sleep but your fire makes it all worth while." i think the 'your fire' he's talking about is the fire of the crowd at the shows, its like he's saying that all the missed sleep and confusion is worht it just for the fans at the shows and the way they respond when the band comes on stage... possibly

about the 6 to 8 comment Alstar_al said "It's about touring: AFI tour 6 - 8 months a year. Now you know that, most of the lyrics will make sense" 6 to 8 is track number 12. There is 12 monthes in a year, 6 - 8 monthes out of a 12 month year just thought i'd say that. amazing song

I always thought this song was about a girl because of the lines "On the way I saw five hours of sleep but your fire makes it all worth while. On the way I wrote words for you to keep." But the rest of it never made sense to me, I can see now it's probably about touring.
