| Words cannot describe what this song means to me. It takes me back to my home in California before I moved to Oregon and makes me think of all those summer days, sitting on the curb in the late afternoon glow, watching the boys skate. This song is very comforting to me but also makes me sad cause it makes me miss my old home. | |

| Yes, but if you look deeper into the song and listen to the music you will hear utter despair and mental tormoil. I think it is about the fact that he feels different than everyone, sees things differently, and finally people view him differently. This leads to feeling lost in yourself and withdrawing into one's self. Thus, the cracks lead toward him because he is the center point of disappointment to society, and he is reluctant to look people in the eye because that would enabl them to tear him apart. Usually people that cannot look you in the eye have low self esteem...maybe he was feeling espiecally "down" the day he wrote this? | |

| id have to take big berto's theory and reverse it. i think this is about the fact that the person (davey) hasnt changed. "poison hearts never change" implies that he has always been evil, and nothing has changed. he walked away, hearing "them" say that he hasnt changed and he turns away in disgrace, embarressed that they think hes the same "poison heart" as he used to be. Im not certain (although of Sing the Sorrow, this would have to be the most straight foward song lyrically). I also think people are thinking too much about the reason leaving song was put after leaving song II. As a musician, i know in choosing the oreder of an album, you order it so that it is a good mix, not too many of one type of song in one place. so there isnt 4 songs with dominant basslines then 5 songs with fast guitar riffs then 3 songs of davey yelling. its about whats gonna make the album the best it can be, so that someone can listen to it from start to finish without having to change to a different band halfway....Or maybe they were trying to tell a story.... no idea | |

| Someone makes him feel bad, so he walks away, but hears what they say, so its people putting him down and he walks away, ego deflated, self-esteem gone and as for the cracks, thats the people or their comments and they start to get to him and again, thats why he walks away, to avoid letting 'em get at him... | |

| i think this song is about someone being banished for something they've done wrong or the way they've treated others or don't treat others and they shower disgrace upon themselves for it. go ahead and disagree. xXx KITTEE xXx 1 2 3 Next | |

| this is a lot less confusing if 1 of the many STS(Sing the Sorrow)theorys is true. Theory: STS is a murder story and as the cd goes on it is in 2 views, the killer, and the killed. Meaning: The leaving song is the killer feeling guilty. Re-read the lyrics w/ that thought in minf and it will make a lot more sense. | |

| in terms of synthesia bassists theory of "the killer and the killed" thinking about this, it makes alot of sense. but then again thats just taking the item of death in general and considering alot of afi's lyrics are very dark, the fact that they may coincide with the idea of death is probable. Also the fact that (as said in another forum by someone else - dont know who) davey's lyrics are very vague, allowing you to interperet them however you like (an attribute) thus meaning it could be about anything. i will keep your theory in mind though, its an interesting one. | |

| i love afi, and even tho this is by-far their most... "emo" song, i still think its really good. the beginning verse makes me think that this song is about leaving a group of friends, possibly maybe a band or even a family, because they believe you have changed for the worse or done something that just cannot be forgiven. although you disagree, you self-righteously leave. no questions asked. the "hard to notice" verse sort-of implies to me that the 'group' has thought this for a while now, but you dont realize this until it is too late, and all you can do now is dwell on everything you deem worth regretting. | |

| ^ I agree with muse, hard to notice gleaming from the sky when your staring at the cracks hard to notice what is passing by with eyes low Those lines do it for me, think that his "group" or whatever really focus on the flaws and everything, and don't really see things for what they are, just appear to be, you know? But thats only my interpretation on those lines, walked away, heard them say, poison hearts will never change walk away again turned away in disgrace felt the chill upon my face cooling from within I dunno, these are pretty self-explanatory, This guy is being rejected and made fun of or whatever and feels really down, depressed or cold about it, Or maybe he's just... Leaving, Oooooh! But all his friends or whatever are disaproving and... yes, he's sad and stuff about it but knows its the right choice | |
