Who is he? Thats all we need to know, and the rest is simple. Miss Murder is far lesser, far smaller than 'him.' My bigest problem is how to link the verses and the bridge. Song rocks, of course, and I cant wait for the CD to come out, maybe it'll amswer a few questions.

You know, GravityAlwaysWins, people said they sold out when they released Shut Your Mouth & Open Your Eyes, people said they sold out when they released Black Sails, people said they sold out when DOTP started getting radioplay... people are always accusing AFI of selling out. Why? Would you rather have Answer That & Stay Fashionable rehashed for every album release? If bands didn't change and grow, it would be dull. AFI are doing the same thing they've always done; they're making music they love. If you don't like the new songs, don't listen to them. As for the song, sounds to me like an idol who believes in the "better to burn out than fade away" theory. "Miss Murder" to me is death itself, and he's asking her if dying now would immortalise him in the eyes of those who adore him, so he can be forever young, forever beautiful, forever adored. However, in the end verse beginning "What's the rift" it kind of sounds like it's all backfired on him, that in death he's faded from most people's memories, it's the speaker "searching for what [he was] promised" after death. Or perhaps it's not even a physical death, just a departure from the limelight. He's constantly reaching but he's in enforced solitude, with nothing but the cold and rain for company... yet he can't forget how it was to be universally admired and adored. That's my take on it anyway.

This song is sooo not AFI! Its sound totally different, but of course, they always come out with a different style each time. I still was expecting sometihng totally different, over all, THIS SONG ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I'm so happy someone posted the lyrics, I was dying to read them! On first listen I swore the song was about an asassin, but after reading the lyrics and hearing it again, I think it is either about a murder or suicide. Did the guys lose someone close to them in real life? Because man, these lyrics are haunting...This is probably way off, but to me it sounds like Miss Murder could be an angel of death he is addressing. The beginning of the second stanza, about 1:20 in, sounds so much like the Personal Jesus remixes from Depeche Mode...coindicence? And I do see the Green Day similarities...in some ways the sound is different but it is still 100% them and still great, thenk goodness! Can't wait or the CD.

Thank God they released this song! Ive been waitin for the new album forever. Davey does sing lower in this song than usual. A whole new direction for afi again, but its good. The yelling part seems a bit off (When the empty sand...) but other than that it was great. I think its about someone whos been left or dissapointed by someone they worshipped (maybe for people who said afi sold out?) and is now thinking about committing suicide to try and get everything bakc. 6/6/06, cant wait

It is AFI, and it's not GD like, the next person who says that, I'll hunt down! Very weird lyrics, the chorus is about 'Miss Murder' yet the keep refering to a he...

Hey, Miss Murder can I Hey, Miss Murder can I Make beauty stay if I Take my life? That part is kinda green day, just how it sounds and with the HEY! in the background. but other than that its not very green dayish. "What's the rift that twists within this furthest mystery?..etc" that part is really good.

this is definitely amazing. I've been waiting for new afi like so many others for so long. It's totally a mix of old afi and sts afi. which is aweeesome. davey's screaming now sounds very dani filth like which isnt a bad thing, just very different.

When I first heard this song I also thought it was probably about Jesus but the title perplexes me. My brother heard it and said "but where's Davey Havok?" It's true, the vocals sound like some other emo band not AFI, yet still wonderfully good; yes, it reminds me a bit of Green Day, maybe a combination of Green Day and Hawthorne Heights. My greatest fear is that AFI go completely soft and burn out like Good Charlotte did. Well we'll know when the CD comes out. I don't know what his fascination with 666 is; I've heard he was raised Catholic but is now an Atheist. Another source told me that Davey is a Wiccan, which has absolutely nothing to do with Satanism. Trust me, I know; I'm a Pagan and I have friends who are Wiccans. However, in Thelema, numerology is an issue, and the six-pointed star is an important symbol. Thelema is not very much like Wicca, so I can't really say much more there. Anyway, I can't wait for the CD. AFI has been my favorite band for two years, and I can relate to them so well. True AFI fans will stay by AFI no matter what, and that is just what I intend to do.
