| this is such a typical analysis of an AFI song, but i see it as a recent breakup. first verse: He's telling her how much he loves her and how good it feels being with her, but she's turning her back out of fright. shes afraid of feeling the way she does because in her heart of hearts she knows she'll just end up hurt. 2nd verse: she had the perfect man and someone who loved her with all of himself, but still couldnt find comfort in his arms, found no point in living in a world without love, and killed herself. He's now asking her how she could do such a thing and leave him in this world heartbroken and alone. the breakdown: He sees life in a different perspective after her death. he sees life through a much more mature persons eyes. he understands that we are only a wink in the world. | |

| well i actually have an experience that this song reminds me of. my freshmen year there was this girl that i met and got to know better and better and we sort of "fell in love" in a sense, but it was late in track season we were running through the park and she begain to cry; she cried so bitterly and she began to unload all the things that had been building up inside of her. it began to rain as she continued to rant, she told me that if she were to die no one would care. i said "I would care". she said "you would be the only one" i put my arm around her and whispered in her ear "i love you" she never returned the favor. in fact she didnt talk to me for weeks after that. it was kind of a dark time. we never really talked beyond an awkward "hi" blah but thats what this song reminds me of | |

| I know this isn’t what the song actually is meant to mean but it just seems to link with me, so I thought I would be weird and post it cause I love this song. I'm a lesbian, just accept it. I'm also in love with this girl at my school who is “straight”. Over time we have become closer and well, much closer. Close enough that things will happen but she wont date me. She is my summer rain, even before this song. I got her an ipod mini with summer rain engraved on it when they were brand new. She tells me she loves me, she just cant be with me. “Listen when I say, When I say it's real. Real life goes undefined, Why must you be so miserable?” It says to me that the whole concepts of straight and gay are just labels and love is so much more complicated than that. Reality [real life] is more than the borders people place one it. Life isn’t always stereotypical. She cant see past the box she has placed herself in, even though its making her feel miserable, she wont accept I make her happy. “Everything you take Makes me more unreal.” She is quite happy to kiss me and all, she is happy to take, but everytime something happens I know that its just a lie. I wont ever be with her, to her im not real as an option. “Listen I can't make Make a sound or feel feel fine, I kissed the lies, Why must they be kissable?” We always push it to the point its unbearable, its temptation. I cant say anything cause its always the same no. If I ever make a fuss about it, then there will be nothing at all. “Listen, as I break break the fourth wall's seal Gorgeous eyes shine suicide When will we be invisible?” The forth wall [I don’t know what it actually is] but to me it is the barrier I have always given myself that I cant go further. It is the line and we cross it. Everytime she looks at me, I cant live without her. It will never happen so I might aswell just suicide. The invisible part refurs to when we can be together and she wont care what others say, all the people will stop judging us, and she will stop worrying about it. “This is the fall This is the long way down And our lives looked smaller now And our lives looked so small” I have a girlfriend now, and she has a boyfriend. I'm starting to realise she isn’t the end all, even though for years she seemed to be. Perspective is changing. Sorry that was long, feed back is nice.. I don’t know. Enjoy. | |

| Summer Shudder is an oxymoronic phrase. Summer is warm and symbolically the twilight of someone's life. It is beautiful and bright. Shudder means "to tremble with a sudden convulsive movement, as from horror, fear, or cold." In AFI's warmest hour (STS' success), Davey is cold and fearful. Why does he feel that way? "Listen when I say, When I say it's real. Real life goes undefined, Why must you be so missable?" He's trying to make everyone listen to his words (lyrics). He's also upset he can't perfect his lyrics to appease everyone. "Everything you take Makes me more unreal. Real lines are undefined. How can this be so miserable?" You is the fans he can't reach. How can success be so miserable? How can some be unreachable and some hate them for getting big? "Under the summer rain, I burned away. Under the summer rain, you turned away." He is referring to the people who call successful bands "sell outs." They turned their backs on AFI. "Listen, as I break break the fourth wall's seal Gorgeous eyes shine suicide When will we be invisible?" This verse is the most important. The fourth wall is the invisible barrier between the stage and the audience in theater. Davey is breaking it with this song, this album, and all the "gorgeous eyes" that look back at him make him want to kill himself (not literally, although who knows, maybe). He wants AFI to be "invisible" so they won't be scrutinized anymore. | |

| Fantastic song, one of my favourites off the new album. I'm not too sure about my interpretation yet, but when they say "summer rain" I think of a rainbow. Rainbows need rain and sunlight. Just a thought. | |

| Jayemel, i like your interprataion. It's really deep, and makes alot of sense. I just tried to think simple with this one..... "listen when i say, when i say its real" - a love? he is feeling affection towards some one, and feels the love is real. "under the summer rain, you turned away" - maybe a movie like scene, where he tells her how much he loves her, and she doesnt feel the same. she turns away. "Listen, I can't make, make a sound or feel Feel fine, I kiss the lies, why must they be so kissable? Listen as I break, break the forth wall's seal. Gorgeous eyes shines suicide, when will we be invisible?" self explanitory, he can feel fine, he cant speak, hes heartbroken. looking into her gorgeous eyes, after what had just taken place, he considers suicide. wonders when he'll be invisible: when he will die/commit suicide. feedback would be great, let me know what you think. | |
