The entire concept of the album is that of a Big Brother type influence, and this is no exception.

I see this as a romantic relationship between two people. The woman (persumably, since the singer is male) seems to be hot headed, and deceptive. She seems to appear to be truthful, however beneath appearences her motives are all lies. The male character is professing that he has had enough, and that the lies no longer work on him. You can also interpret it as the relationship between humanity and God. Such references include, "eye in the sky", "I am the maker of rules", " I can read your mind".

I read something saying the artists were thinking about the cameras in a casino as well as satellites.

As a well repected musician, you expect the lyrics could be inspired by one thing (a literal or figure eye in the sky such as either those in casions or those written by Orwell) and about another thing (relationships). I've heard that Parsons indicated on an XM Radio show (Artist Confidential) that these lyrics were indeed inspired after a visit to a casino in Vegas. The back album cover art apparently contains pictures of these security cameras.

well i think this song has a very serious meaning. A world in which human beings are linked to computers and there minds are read, this is seriously true. These are the words from the system i.e government agencies and science companies who do it for scientific research. A very serious issue, this was the cause of 9/11, 10/12, 3/11 and 7/7, swear on the bible watch this space. Experienced it myself

I think both sides are right in this case. The thing about The Alan Parsons Project, at least I think this is the case, is that the songs mean one thing when they are alone, but can mean another thing when taken in context of the album as a whole. For those of you who think this song means on thing, try listening to it in the mindset of the other oppinion (if you think about it as a relationship, now think of it as a big brother system) It will still make sense. In fact, some of the lines that seemed out of place in your first view will now make sense in this other context.

I think that this song represents someone who has ended a relarionship that consisted of too many lies on the part of their partner. He is describing how he can see through those lies, but is still sad as he remembers some of the times that were so good that the lies were worth believing.

It's about how two people were in a relationship, and one of them lied. He was saying sorry's not always enough, and that the lier can't try to turn it around and blame him either. He gave many "second chances", but just couldn't take it anymore. He knows the person will try to lie their way back. (Don't think sorry's easily said Don't try turning tables instead You've taken lots of Chances before But I'm not gonna give anymore Don't ask me That's how it goes Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin' ) Also, about how when the person being lied to cut off the relationship the lier got angry and would say things they didn't entirely mean. (Don't say words you're gonna regret Don't let the fire rush to your head) He's saying some of the lies were worth believing because being with the person was that important. (The sun in your Eyes Made some of the lies worth believing) The chorus is about how he's capable of seeing through the person's lies and know what they're going to try to pull next. In the last verse he's saying not to act like all of the deceptions were true. Not to cry or whine for pity to get him to take them back after it all. To just find another fool to believe them like he had, and that he was giving up on anything he had believed because all the signs told him the statements or situations were false. (Don't leave false illusions behind Don't Cry cause I ain't changing my mind So find another fool like before Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing Some of the lies while all of the Signs are deceiving )

Everybody is wrong. This song is about BOTH. It IS about a relationship. It IS about spying. It IS about surveilance. "What?" you say. Think about it. The person who's talking sounds like a psychopath whose going through bipolar mood swings. A psychologist would diagnose this person with erotomania. The person singing is supposed to be a stalker. "Can't I an gonna live anymore!" Who says this and then makes threats like "I'm watching you!"? A STALKER! For more info on stalking/stalkers go to esia.net This song creeps me out, because I was once the victim of a cult stalking. 1

Although probably written about a failed relationship as others said, it was curious to see angels singing this song as part of some educational performance art they were engaging in—not like I’d seen anything like this before they sailed in. Interpreting how they used the lyrics, don’t think sorry’s easily said was referring to the idea that if you tried anything with them, you would assuredly regret this. I found it impossible to turn tables on them. They offered wild chances for others to get closer to them in the beginning and allowed a few disastrous overtures to occur—mentioning of course that they would withdraw these avenues and they did. Part of me knows what you’re thinking was that they always knew what was going on but I hadn’t a clue and they were part of me. Although they were fond of inciting others, they cautioned against anger because what does it get you? Nothing but anger. The sun in your eyes making some of the lies worth believing referred to the idea that much of what was said sounded gloriously believable and even hopeful—although they were fond of lying—just like us. They would sing the chorus lustfully but it sounded to me quite tongue in cheek however that was my take on it—I believe it sounded differently to others. They were also fond of singing “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” about this time. I would have to move beyond my own level of understanding at this point to interpret the last few lines and that doesn’t look like it’s happening so I won’t. I feel it was all curious but despite the fanfare, I wasn’t seeing anything that prompted fewer problems so I guess I shrugged it off. Plenty of people hear from angels but like religion, this seems to revolve in its own field of study not really impacting daily life.

The star system Sirius is traditionally through EVERY ancient religion in the world, the birthplace of the gods. In ancient Central American times, the gods where to have taught the people not to be savage or cannabalistic anymore and that they're worshipping of the sun was for the wrong reasons. They taught the people through hymns and songs how to live but never forced the people to change, only showing them this new way of life as an option. This is just one example. If your really interested read about the Dogon religion of Mali in the Sirius Mystery by Robert Temple. These spear carrying tribesmen knew more about astronomy than we just are learning in the past 30 or so years. Also check out Robert Duvaul , Graham Hancock and many others....and decide for yourself what this song could mean. If our thoughts produce a sound, which they do through ultra low frequencies, could anyone pick up the frequencies and how far would the sound waves travel. Gives a whole new meaning to prayer or meditation. The Eye is well known to be the symbol for Atum-RA, Isis the wife of Osiris, is represented by the star system Sirius. Please in the search for the truth, it led you here didn't it. All of the history of man from the beginning has brought you here to this site and reading this post.

For goodness' sakes. It's not about cameras or satellites! It might fit with the chorus, but look at the other verses. It just doesn't work. It's about a relationship like SomeRandomGirl, Neo2005, and Pengy said.... And I have no clue why The Civilizer put what they did...how odd.

This whole album, not just this paticular song, was heavily influenced by the book 1984 by George Orwell. But that's just what Parsons himself said. What the hell does he know? Don't post comments if you don't know what you're talking about.

This song doesnt have to have two particular people.. it is just about 1 person lying to another. the singer is saying that he's dealt with fools before and he can read the others mind. no more chances, pracitally tell him/her that trust is gone and he's leaving. Thank You =)

I agree with SomeRandomGirl, however I have to add some thoughts. The last line can save a lot of people... (more easily said than done, however!!!!) I think it is about a person who seems determined to break up with someone because of his/her lying. However the person leave us with signs that he/she still has feelings and is carried away sometimes, despite the bad behavior: "Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin'" meaning the other part is not so sure and maybe curious about what the thoughs are... "The sun in your Eyes Made some of the lies worth believing" He still sees the sun in the other person's eyes or remebers it... and the final line: "Cause I ain't gonna live anymore believing Some of the lies while all of the Signs are deceiving" shows that the person is determined but is it so? I think this song describes a lot of peoples' relationships, with the confusion, anger and tenderness...

then why the down tempo tune? (if it is political?) strange choice, but works nonetheless
