Alanis Morissette That I Would Be Good Guitar Tab

Sorry there was a tiny weeny mistake in the previous one... :)
(The lyrics are taken from your original tab)
I beleive that Morrisette played these cords UNPLUGGED. If the original was played with the same notes,
these seem the most appropriate
(The D is to be played without the high e cord)
Introduction : A A D D x2
A A D D Bm Bm E E
That I would be good even if I did nothing
A A D D Bm Bm A E E
That I would be good even if I got the thumbs down
A A D D Bm Bm (A) E E
That I would be good if I got and satyed sick
A A D D Bm Bm A E
That I would be good even if I gained ten pounds
...
...
That I would be fine even if I went bankrupt
That I would be good if I lost my hair and my youth
That I would be great if I was no longer queen
That I would be grand if I was not all knowing
That I would be loved even when I numb myself
That I would be good even when I am overwhelmed
That I would be loved even when I was fuming
That I would be good even if I was clingy
That I would be good even if I lost sanity
That I would be good whether with or without you
ohhhhhhhh ohhhhhhh ohhhhhhh ohhhhhhhh
ohhhhhhhh ohhhhhhh ohhhhhhh ohhhhhhhh

This is such a beautiful song, and I just listen to it over and over, longing for someone to love me to this extent. It makes me cry everytime I hear it.

I went through a bout of depression a couple of years ago and I would listen to this song over and over because it totally and completely described how I was feeling...its a great song and when I listen to it now, it gives me the sense thatI will be ok, regardless of any external factors in my life - good song!

This song emanates the emotions from a person who has been in love with someone but that person has conditions regarding his love for her. She is in pain because she longs for someone to return her love. She has the best intentions -i.e. she will do her best to keep in shape, act mature, be responible, however she knows she will have moments of temporarly insanity in her life. She craves security in knowing that her beloved won't run for the hills and reject her if she gets sick and needs to rely on him to help her. If she gains weight, he'll still be proud to be by her side, even workout with her if that will help her. She seeks positive support from him and she, in return will nurture his temporary weaknesses and love him more for it. We all fear rejection and crave security.

this song i think is talking about having intrinsic worth, rather than just some instrumental value, that she is valuable even if she is not skinny, and loses her hair

ive always had two ideas of what this song means, one of them being what you've already talked about. i also get a sad side to this song, and i start thinking that its about a person who's in a relationship with someone who's not really bothered about them, and no matter what they do, whether they succeed or fail, their partner will only consider them as 'fine' or 'good', and they can never impress them....

I think each phrase in this song is a methaphor.. she's been clearly abbandoned and compares all of those things written above with the ausence of sby in her life.. she s kinda trying to tell him "ok.. i ll be fine no matter you re not beside me", sarcasticaly speaking... "doing nothing, being thumbs down, getting sick, gaining pounds, going on bankrupt, losing her youth, being all not-knowing, not herself, overwhelmed, fuming, being not herself, losing sanity" are all proves of what would happen to her if he s not around.. at the same time she tends to magnifize her state, from "good" to "grand"..now when she comes to "being loved", she plays with facts that would turn sby into an "unloveable" person.... it talks pretty much about when u break up with someone and u just say "sure, i'll be just fine".. but in the inner you, it's obviously a lie. Interesting song, by the way, one of my favourites. :)

I like the song , I think it's very relaxing and it tells what life is. It sometimes helps me when I'm sad. I recommend it to everybody who likes listening to good songs and appreciate the meaningful lyrics.

I think she's wishing that she knew how to love herself enough to let go of people who hurt her, and the ways she hurts herself. She's trying to let go of the paranoid cycle of self hatred that so many people, women especially find themselves trapped in.

When I read the lyrics I'm reminded of the old testament (though I'm not particularly religious). It says that, after creating the world, God said it was "good". That feeling that something is innately good (there is nothing that a person can do or not to that would stop them from being worth loving and appreciating) is thought by some to be the very essence of mature love. It is that attitude of unconditional love for herself that she seems to be longing for in this song. The song seems to speak to all the things that she tells herself that she has to be and has to have in order to be worth loving. To me, this song is more about her wishing that she really loved herself, instead of it being about her longing for someone else to love her... Great song! India taught her well.

I first heard this song at a dance convention and this one chick performed this beautiful solo to this! Anyway, this song means so many things for so many people, and the simplicity of it makes it even more complex. "With or without you," I think, is the key to the song. See, I was the same way. I totally changed myself for ONE stupid guy, and after he broke my heart, this song was the key to finding ME again! You can get so lost in someone else's vision of you that is leads to total consumption of your vision for yourself. It's a hard lesson to learn, and some do not have to, but there are still a lot of people WAY TOO dependant on someone else. Basically, this song says, "who the hell cares what you think about me...all that matters is that I am happy with MYSELF!"

To me, this song is her looking for security. You want to know for sure that you would be good enough for the person you're in a relationship with even if you "gained ten pounds, were clingy, lost your youth," etc.
