| I think the meaning has been covered pretty well I just wanted to say that i freakin love this song and AOF. These lyrics are a stroke of genius they describe feelings that most of us including myself have felt at one point or another and do it so beautifully. I also love the metaphorical lyrics in George's harsh scream juxtaposed with the straight up lyrics from dallas's soft singing voice - both meaning the same thing but saying them so differently. simply amazing. | |

| I interpret this song to be about a girl admitting something awful she did to the lyricist. She cares about him, but is not on the same page as him. I still can remember what you did. Your eyes full of discomfort, bare foot in a public washroom. She's telling him, and really uncomfortable about it, very out of place. Spill on me your nostalgia like warm water and cataracts that that fell behind self conscious eyes. The accused is trying to soften the situation and make him feel comfortable by reminiscing about the good times in the past. Hurt so good through ivory rain and cut throat soap box derby racers. I want you to ruin me. The realization that it hurts so bad, but maybe he was asking for it by staying with her, it's clear that he was optimistic about someone who didn't deserve it, and the "I want you to ruin me" is self post-reaction. please just give me back my heart, it has been too long and i will burn no more...please just give me back my heart, it has been too long and i will burn no more, tired of all these lies and elsewhere eyes of yours, so i will scream and dream of whats to come. Dallas' part is kind of summarizing what he now feels. He's been hurt, and wants to just forget the person and move on to what's to come, because he knows staying with her is just asking for more of the same, it's hard to get over some people though, even if they hurt you worse than you ever felt you could have been hurt. | This is quite an excellent song. I think it's about betrayal of some sort, I interpret it with a heavy bias because of the things I think about when I listen to it, so I can't post any long wordy discussion about it, though in a nutshell I would say that it is about Dallas being so destroyed over a girl/guy/whatever because of the way he was betrayed by it, he still feels strongly though, and finds comfort in the awkward pain which he feels (I want you to fucking ruin me; pseudo sata masochisitic line, but it makes so much sense if you can compare it to your life). I just think of it as a song about extreme loss and grievance coupled with the pain that accompanies it, whether it should be fairly called pain or joy is something up to the listener however I think of the pain in this song as some sort of 'sick/dellusional' joy that the writer receives from the pain. | |
