| Yeah, it sounds like it. I must say, this is a fantastic closing track to an album that threw me off my feet by track 2, so amazing. Brings everything to a nice close, slowing stuff down a bit. | |

| I think that part is "Don't people do damage too much already?". Like a question perhaps. Whooo knows. | |

| I think the placement of this song on the album after "keep it on wax" and "to a friend" is an important theme to finding the meaning of the song. "rough hands" is about a situation the narrator has been through, dealing with a girl that has troubled him. The situation is complicated with him and the girl, because she loves someone else and he is trying to convince her to be with him. "Sometimes love isn't about how much he worships you Or how much you're willing to change to suit them" he tries so hard at 'winning her over' that he is tired and broken, hence the rough hands. i think the background singing is actually "Two people, too damaged, too much, too late." | |

| I don't think the narrator in this song wants to "win" the girl. I think at one time in the past he may have, but she hurt him somehow and he's since become calloused and insensitive and now that he sees her again he tells her not to be surprised. He doesn't really want to be her man now but it's ironic because now he's changed into the less sensitive guy she probably wanted him to be back then. Wade/George's "don't people do damage to you too much late" thing definitely fits in with this theme for the song. This song is about having that sensitivity in you ripped out by someone else. "My hearts sealed with rust". It's once bitten, twice shy kind of stuff. Also the "one day" part is ALL in the past tense. He doesn't say "my hands will go soft", he says "My hand were too soft". He was too sensitive back then and he ended up getting hurt by her as a result. Now I guess it's maybe kind of backfired on the girl because he can't feel like he used to about her. "She says I swear too much" - here's an example of him having come back changed and it's an unpleasant shock for her, even though she obviously didn't appreciate who he was back then. Basically the song's about never again being able to love with the same vigor and sensitivity you used to have. The loss of innocence, etc. 'Tis a beautifully sad song. Awesome song - induces spine-shivers. | |

| From what I heard on forums and stuff it is George singing the "don't people do damage..." part. This song is great. Perfect icing on an amazingly delicious cake. | |

| these lyrics are full of mistakes! heres the correct version was i left behind, someone tell me, tell me i survived. don't look so surprised that i'm home, but just for tonight. with rough hands and sore eyes, so don't speak, i am tired. let's just live through this life. she says i swear too much, she says a lot of things, well i'd swear every other word if i could for her, i'd make an attempt. sometimes love isn't about how much he worships you. but how much you're willing to change to suit them. | |

| I think this song is about a guy who works all the time, and hates his life because he "has nothing", even though he has an awesome wife or girlfriend who loves him... He just doesn't see that because he's always tired from working so hard. Anyways, she eventually has enough and leaves him, and he realizes what happened but it's too late to get her back. | |
