| once again i think this song be bout drugs like at the start i think hes smokin crack or smack n just talkin shit maybe and when hes talkin to this god hes talkin to his addiction again like a normal conversation like how are you etc etc Dear God, how have you been then? I'm not fine, fuck pretending All of this death your sending Best throw some free heart mending and that last line is about how smack or whatever makes him feel better cus he NEEDS it Invite you in my heart, then When done, my sins forgiven? and this bit is bout how when he takes it nothing bothers him, everythings OK This God of mine relaxes World dies I still pay taxes now hes mashed up hes all relaxed everything goes away but it ruins his body, like a tax for what he does? So Lord, I see you grinnin Must be grand always winning how he always gives in to smack,it always wins How proud are you being able To gather faith from fable how smack makes all ur pains go away which is a lie and how its like a religion to him,his faith which comes from these "lies" All the respect I'm giving Shared strength acquired by living paying his respects to his god aka shooting up etc and he cant go on without it and how its a 2 way deal both giving strength to eachother All blooming life you're feeding Can't hide sick ones you're weeding dunno bout that first line but i think the 2nd is about how when smack fucks your body everyone knows, you cant hide it when this god is killing you and god am is like goddamn | |

| I find it weird that if you turn the letters of God Am around, you get Dogma. But to me Layne is angry at God in this song, because sometimes that's just what people do when they're under tough times. It's not God's fault that Layne shot up heroin, but he it feels good to lash out. His health was declining by this point and he was questioning how much God even cared. Regardless, it sounds awesome. The riff will get stuck in your head for days. Favorite lyric: "This God of mine relaxes, world dies I still pay taxes." | |

| the My first impression of this song was that he was mocking God and the belief in God sort of in a satirical way because of the line "How proud are you being able to gather faith from fable". I myself am an atheist so I love this song. I stand corrected in my interpretation of this song from the other opinions and quotes out of the book. Either way, this is my favorite AIC song. | |

| Its definitely "but does he have lips" he is questioning why God doesn't answer his call for help. All interpretations aside, one of the best AiC songs. As a follow up to the equally powerful shame in you it is perfect. R.I.P Layne | |

| I think this song is about having high expectations of yourself, Layne wanted to be like God, wanting to be forgiving of himself and others... There is a proverb in the Bible about 'loving your enemies' and I think this is pretty close. Being like God is imposssible and Layne thinks its stupid and only frustrates human beings, who aren't perfect like God is, to tell them as little children to try to be like Christ. BTW Redsand, you should interp this stuff for a living... if there is a such a thing..you freakin rock!! | |

| i thought he said, "sure gods all powerful, but does he have nuts?" lol, but maybe thats just me. This song is just a questioning of why god never helps him and so he is just getting more pissed off at god everyday. He is saying God is all powerful and never has to deal with the problems humans have and then God doesnt even help the most suffering. good song to listen to if you are questioning religion. | |

| I agree with most of you that this is a sort of mocking and cynical prayer. One of the things I appreciate most about Layne's lyrics is his wordplay. Using "god am" to express his exasperation and despair (as "goddamn") instead of "god is" is literary brilliance. Quite a catchy tune overall. 1 2 Next | |

| I think this song is about layne being more than pissed off at God. He feels that no matter what he does, he gets no help from God to help him with his problems (love, drugs...etc). He mocks God and shows disrespect towards God throughout the song. I LOVE THIS SONG. SO POWERFUL. -chris | |

| people can say what they want about how the lyrics aren't about anti-christ stuff, it's deeper. but come on. the lyrics say enough. he's just saying how he doesn't understand why him, he never did anything wrong he just wanteda normal life but God didn't help him, wasn't their for him. I think this is a very powerful and meaningful song. It's not anti christ stuff however, simply asking God why him and why he never got any help,. | |

| This song is about Laynes battle with religion. It's written like a disappointed prayer. He's not okay, and he questions God for not making things better, he wants God to help him out. Then he will really believe. He wants to know if he'll be forgivin when he dies. He thinks that God is not helping him. He knows he can count on the taxes more then God. (one of the two "guaranteed " things in life) Second verse he talks about how he thinks God is selfish, making things happen for only himself. He questions why God made religion, it seems only to boost his ego. Final verse is how he earned his respect, and not forced it. How he doesn't help the needy, and just kills them off. Chorus is self explanitory. I also love this song. I love all of Layne's writing, it's so truthful, so powerful. | |

| The significance of the "does God have lips" part is another drug reference. The sound in the very beginning of the song sounds like somebody sparking a bong. So it seems like somebody's getting high, and thinking philosophically about God. Whoa... Then the song starts. And it's a damn good song too. | |
