1/2 step down.

| The Dirt album contains a lot of songs and lyrics driven by heroin addiction, hence the album name, the album artwork, and some track names. Yes it's annoying when people constantly link AIC songs back to drug addiction, but it is true of a majority of the songs on the Dirt album, this being one of them. Just because the lyrics in this track refer to a person it doesn't mean that is how they are meant to be interpreted. I believe the "person" in this song is the addiction. Lyrics don't make sense, that's why we're here, trying to work them out. | |

| it is about drugs, heroin-- specifically, and obviously, im not proud of it but i fell under the spell of sweet lady and was and still is concidered an addict, it makes perfect sense to me, the entire elbum dirt was based on the cycle of drugs | |

| i find it humorous when people automatically say that a song is about drugs and heroin. what a piece of shit way of interpreting every single song ever written. just because layne staley was intoxicated like 24/7 doesnt mean that it completely controlled what he wrote his music about. try actually reading the lyrics before saying "yep, AIC wote it, it must be about a syringe and a vein". in doing so, you will clearly see that someone is driving somone else insane, causing that person to become suicidal. no, its not a drug because drugs are not capable of scraping someone's brains off the wall. | |

| this song reminds me of that one friend you have that stripes you down and digs you under. i just started listening to Alice In Chain and find them to be different which i like. this song reminds me of my friend who is always so damn lucky or gets what you wanted and rubs it in your face but still you hang out with them and are almost dependent on them yet you hate them deep inside. who ever wrote the lyrics was most likely talking about drugs and his addiction, but the song made me think of a shoveler friend. if you dont have one of those friends you are one! 1 2 Next | |

| I think this song is an alternative or other side of the song Junkhead.In that song Layne is talking about what drug means to the junkie mind, but in this it is obvious that he hates himself being a junkie, and he wants to kill himself.Very powerfull song, one of the best AIC songs.I`m not sure if I hit the point of this song, but it`s just my opinion.I LOVE YOU ALL... | |

| sounds like Layne was talking to his addiction face to face,in the line /you are so special/you have the talent/ to make me feel like dirt/he was hating his addiction and in a essence himself for letting it control him.lots of addicts have a love/hate relationship with their addiction and this was his hate for it showing.....damn,i wish he hated more,then maybe he would'nt have died | |

| The person who said Layne overdosed is a moron. He died, his body was found, and of fucking course there was a certain level of drug content found in it. But there is no telling what level of concentration was in it the blood, which would in turn reveal whether it was enough to overdose or not. Like Sean Kinney said, Layne's body was so weak and degraded at the point of his death, a minor illness would have been enough to kill him because his immune system was severely devoured by heavily sustained drug abuse. The idea that he died of an overdose is only a suspision that is possible but not a proven fact. No shit there will be drugs around his body, no shit there will be drugs in his blood, he was an addict, dumb fuckers. | |

| Some of you guys are just plain dumb. Except for the people that says it's obviously about his addiction. It's about his heroin addiction, I've seen an interview with Layne himself, explaining this song. Layne HATED his addiction to drug, he never wanted to be addicted in the long run, but when it all came to it self, he WAS addicted, and he said there was nothing he could do about it anymore. (my recall from the interview) I have never felt such frustration Or lack of self control (he was frustrated that he was addicted, and he hated that he could no longer control his drug abuse) I want you to kill me And dig me under, I wanna live no more (talking face to face with the drugs/his addiction. He'd like it to kill him, and do it sometime soon, because he'd rather not live a long life with frustration and addiction where his world revolved around one thing.) One who doesn't care is one who shouldn't be I've tried to hide myself from what is wrong for me For me (Heroin made him 'not care' about things, as long as he got his fix that was the most important thing. He's tried to cover himself and not fall into he drug, referring to "hiding himself so the addiction couldn't fin him") I want to taste dirty, stinging pistol In my mouth, on my tongue (pretty obvious, he want to shoot himself in the mouth (laying a gun on his tongue) I want you to scrape me from the walls And go crazy like you've made me (I'm not completely sure here. When you shoot yourself in the head usually, on stronger guns, leaning against a wall, your brain stew will splash on to the wall. The next line, about 'going crazy like YOU made me', I'm not too sure if he's reffering to someone he once knew, or the addiction.) One who doesn't care is one who shouldn't be I've tried to hide myself from what is wrong for me For me You, you are so special You have the talent to make me feel like dirt (the heroin/addiction has a certain way of making him feel like dirt, even though he enjoys getting his heroin because well... his body now needs it. | The best explanation to this song is the album artwork itself - The woman being pulled into the ground. This represents the effect of Heroin (Dirt in slang terms as mentioned ^!), a feeling of being pulled down into the ground. Sure this may partly be about a woman but it is deffinetly related to effects of Heroin. Maybe its showing the effects of the drug on his relationship or is a comparison. | |
