He likes to act like he's all grown up.
He wanted to grow up to be
An actor, but he never told anybody.
He likes to spill all of his guts
On the top of a well-stocked bar,
And then swallow them bit by bit, remembering every scar.

He likes to pretend that he's all sewn up.
It makes for a much stronger case,
But there is blood underneath that skin
That scar is not so easy to erase.
He walks with a glass cane now.
He's careful, when holding his body up straight.
Can't go outside anymore when it's raining.
Can't smash up that beautiful face.

| To me (and this may be way off to others but..)the song is about dan watching someone he knows alot about or has a good relationship with (like Matt maybe) and how they appear to be a great person but he has demons he cant deal with "he likes to pretend that hes all grown up" and even though he dose alot of things that are wrong like with "another innocent girl just maid his list" he cant help but realize and see that even though all these things are bad he is slowly almost manipulated to be the same "this part of him is now a part of me." i dont know thats what i think of it but everyone has there own views | |

| I don't know if it's about him being violent. I think the guy in the song is trying to get people to pity him. He tried to commit suicide by hurting himself (the scar, the hurt back). The thing is, he never really wanted to kill himself, he just wanted attention. The innocent girl is the one that pitied him. She's being drawn in because he is lying to himself, and to everyone else about his depression. | |

| he doesnt let anyone inside of him.. all he can do is act.. and make people feel sorry for him. i have a friend like the guy in the song that will do anything to make people feel sorry for them. they sort of.. feed off of it. and try to affect as many people as they can. | |

| I think Emo_ezralite is more on to something. He's not violent. He's a schmuck who blames all of his problems on other people -- specifically girls who he thinks have fucked him over. | |

| i agree with bb72. i don't think there's any violence - toward himself or a girl. the scars are metaphorical for all the broken hearts he's collected. he's looking at himself as if he's perfect, and the girls who don't love him are to blame for all of his heartache. getting sloshed is his only release because deep inside he knows the only one he can blame is himself. | |

| But why is the whole song in third person except the "and when we get home" parts? And he says "This part of him is controlling me"; I'm not sure whether that suggests that he considers himself to have two different personaes or if he feels he's learnt his behavour from someone else. | |

| I definitely agree with emo_ezralite; this song seems about someone violent at first, but it makes more sense throughout if it's about using depression to try to earn pity . . .sad because my brother was like this for a long time. | |

| i'm gunna agree with superman9k..this song (well at least the 'He likes to spill all of his guts...On the top of a well stocked bar...And then swallow them bit by bit remembering every scar...As a valid reason for every drink' part) reminds me of vanilla sky...when tom cruise goes to the bar (to meet penelope cruz) and ends up getting wicked drunk b/c she turns him down. but ya...i think he gets girls to feel sorry for him, and then takes advantage of them (typical guy move) and um, that's it! buhbyes! | |

| gonna hafta agree with superman9k as well.. especially because near the end, he changes the lyric to.. "And then swallow them bit by bit, remembering every scar.. It's a valid reason for STRONGER drinks." take a girl to the bar.. gonna give her some strong drinks, and his old wounds (previous breakups) are a good excuse | |

| Some parts, not all of them kind of remind me of me. Because though I am fifteen, I can act so childish, [like my obsession with toys, and cartoons]. And sometimes when I am sad my only comfort is drinking coke out of a burben glass..hehe, but like..I dont know why, I just like this song alot. | |

| He likes to pretend he's things he's not, he wanted to be an actor He doesn't like people to know how he's feeling He likes to drink, because then he can say exactly how he feels He's been through so much, he has valid reasons to drink He never really thinks about anything anymore except for what tattoo he's getting next If he pretends that he has no problems, people will like him more He still has problems though, you can't just erase the scars by putting them out of your head He's really fragile He looks good, but that's all he has He finds another innocent girl with low self esteem and takes her home How can he resist a girl that's going to sleep with him so easily? I think the next lines are talking about someone else that's similar to him, maybe a son or something. He's taking a girl home. It was so easy, all he had to do was fake a smile. Maybe he's wrong for doing this, but everyone gets bored once in awhile. | |

| "that self-pity shit is just too hard to resist" that says it all. the songs about girls who go out with guys who are creeps because they're so outgoing. "spilling his guts" on the bar as if it's "a valid reason for every drink", again gaining pity... showing off a new tatoo as if it really meant something, when it was probably just to be "cool". "he likes to pretend that he's all sewn up" because he acts like his "scars" don't affect him anymore. they're a conversation piece to meet chicks. "glass cane...careful...smash up...face" all leading to the self-pity part. and "when we get home, you'll see that this part of him is now part of me" because so many guys have it ingrained into their heads that this is what it takes to get girls. "it's way too easy to fake this smile and lead you on, maybe i'm wrong" he's leading her on just to get play (just like the other guy), even though he admits he's wrong, but "everyone gets bored once in a while" | |
