I listened to this cd all the way back to the US (from France), away from friends and a boyfriend at the end of a year abroad...it's was sickening, sinking into that seat and crying in my throat..."plastic wings and plastic smiles" is just how the stewardesses responded--artificial concern. Nothing, not even "hopeful thoughts of soon returning" could console me. I guess the lyrics are poignant and powerful because I remember it so vividly...

yeah evilmpress is right and I think its just a homesick song because matt and dan always go back to chicago in there lyrics and both say they love the city

im actually going home to buffalo today but i live in SF now, its just sad because i just met someone here, im afraid that when i do leave, that i might lose her, so now im kinda having second thoughts on about going away... i know that this song is about SF as a city not some girl but cant help but relate to it.

chicago kicks ass. only a city this cool could produce a band this awesome. alk3 is definitely upset about leaving the place they grew up and going across the country to a place thats completely backwards of what theyre used to. its catchy and i'm glad to see its appreciated by other people with the lyrics stuck in their heads.. rock on.

This song is definately about matt falling in love with San Francisco. 'And I was drinking you goodbye A heart floats in the bay From sour home Chicago I hear it beating far away' What he's basically saying here is that his heart remains in 'the bay' of SF and he can sence that that it is where is heart wants to stay, rather than his home of Chicago. Amazing song from the greatest band... 1 2 Next

such an awesome song, the lyrics(as with all A3 songs) are so powerful. and i do think its about a girl, a girl that he loves but cant be with. and without her he is lost "There's no telling what I'll do/ If I don't return to you." and all he wants is to be with her, is that so much to ask.

matt skiba said this was one of the most personal songs he has ever wrote. its about him falling in love with San Francisco than having to return to "sour home chicago"

this song reminds me of a girl i met online, im from san francisco and shes from chicago, which is very trippy. i wish she would come down and visit me and i know this is how me and her would feel when she leaves. i'd be drinking her good bye....

If anything I think this song sums up airports better than anything else. Distinctly average song for the Trio, still brilliant though.

Funny thing is the first time I listened to this song was in an airport on my way to college leaving all my friends and a girlfriend behind. I didn't get a window seat though.

This song I think is about leaving someone behind for an indefinate amount of time. I love all the refernces to alcohol, this whole song just so nails the feelings of painful goodbyes. I guess it could be about leaving aplace instead of a person, but I think at least that part of the song is pretty ope to interpretation. Great song.

This song is about when Matt moved out of Chicago, he left behind a lot of shit (Dan Andriano, possibly a girl). This is just my theory, It doesn't make too much sense cause I thought he didn't leave Chicago until recently. Possibly going on tour...

I don't hink this is abou a person. The title suggests to me that it's about the place as no specific relationship or person. So my guess is, he's singing about San Francisco.

A great song.... Its hard to decipher though. It could either be he's saying goodbye permanently to a gf b-cause she cheated or something and he doesnt want to come to grips with it, or he's leaving for a long time and misses her
