| yo, yo, got this live bootlegged sorta romp thru this song that makes its meaning abundantly clear: pot. he says "smoking for eighteen months". the breathing and memory images are also clear, i think. | |

| Awww...I'm sure you could get weed in jail if he wanted it this bad. It would be rather amusing if it is about weed. It does make sense. It's just kinda funny with all the people like "awww...girlfriend song." I guess we just gotta find if Matt went to jail. That'd kinda make it obvious. | |

| To me the start sounds a likkle like Radio. Maybe it's about weed maybe the girlfriend going away theory, I like both really, I think if it's about a girl going away the lyrics are very beautiful. | |

| i don't really think this song is about pot as corduroyrock makes it to be. i think it is about a long term relationship that he's looking back on..and i also think it says "i was breathing for 18 months" not "i won't breathe for 18 months." but i am not sure | |

| This is definitely lovely song. It used to be my favorite Alkaline Trio song, and they are my favorite band, but I find it so hard to choose a favorite song. There is nothing NOT amazing about them... | |

| its not about weed becasue according to an interview, matt's smoked it for a while, not quitting for anywhere near 18 months. the interview said only one month, after he had a panic attack on a plane. | |

| hmm... i don't get the whole drug thing... if it's about quitting why will it all be ok in 97? i'd be interested to hear the other lyrics though, anyone who's got them should post them. we could come to a more informed consensus. i always thought it was just a simple 'leaving on a jet plane' love song. there are all the travel motifs in there 'cadillac' 'drive it through' etc. this song sort of does bury itself inside you and come out when you least expect it. it reminds me of 'romeo and juliet', don't ask me why... | |

| If only Skiba were here right now...[dreamy sigh] *HE'D* explain to us what it means. But I do agree with what thissitesucksbuttox said. Girlfriend's goin away fer 18 months, gonna be back in 97. Makes much sense, ne? The pot thing just isn't too feasible... | |

| The song is most definitely about drugs. Not necessarily weed though. I talked to Matt once, from the things he said it led me to believe it was Heroin though. It's not exactly out of character for him to write about his addictions, -cough- my little needle -cough- | |

| Back in the City The Sun bakes the trash on the curb where the men are pissing in doorways rats are running in herds Had a dream with your face in it It scared me awake I put too much on the table I put too much at stake Those words are the original ending, judging by those I think the song is about a girl, however the drug idea DOES make sense... 1 2 3 4 Next | |

| I definately agree with that last one. To me this song is obviously about someones girl friend leaving for eighteen months. Totally makes sense, I love the "I won't breathe for eighteen months" line. And the "But you'll be there to dry my eyes, when I breathe you in, in '97" Fucking awesome lyrics. One of my favorite ALK3 songs | |
