I think this song is about a friend of matt skibas that died, but it was his own fault. He always did stupid shit that should have gotten him killed but it didn't. (drugs) "You had nine lives and one by one u chewed them up" that means he had alot of chances to stop doing dumb shit, but he didnt, and now his carelessness got him killed. "Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much" that means he should have died a long time ago for the stuff he did. "I've got a dying urge to feel the way you do" That means matt skiba wishes he could be as careless as his friend but he knows he shouldnt be. And i ithnk the bed and breakfest in a spoon part means that his friend did heroine too much. Overall, Id say this song is about matts friend O.D.ing on heroine Anyone agree?

I'm no drug expert but I thought he was referring to free basing cocaine with the spoon reference, not heroin. The more I listen to this album the more I like it. Absolutely love this song, especially with the animal lines: "Wish I could learn to let this sleeping dog die without lying to myself You had nine lives and one by one you chewed 'em up" He can't stop thinking about it and thinking how he could have helped the situation and didn't, or maybe he was just lying to himself that his friend wasn't really an addict. Also, what do you guys think the meaning of the title 'Continental' is? I'm wondering if it is a spinoff off the bed and breakfast in a spoon line, 'continental breakfast' or the wait in the car lines, like a lincoln continental?

THIS SONG IS ABOUT A GIRL WHO MESSED UP HER LIFE AND BECAME A HEROIN ADDICT (BED AND BREAKFAST IN A SPOON) - SHE HAD BEEN LUCKY BEFORE (YOU HAD 9 LIVES AND 1 BY 1 YOU CHEWED THEM UP) HER 9TH LIFE CAME, SHE TOOK TOO MUCH HEROIN, AND CONSEQUENTLY DIED. HER BABY DIED WITH HER (THIS BOUNCING BABY BOY'S NOW TURNING BABY BLUE(NOT A NICE IMAGE)) - SHE TOLD HIM SHE WOULD STOP AFTER THIS (YOU MADE ONE LAST STOP AT THE STORE) I'M SURE THIS IS CORRECT, IF I'M NOT, I'LL EAT MY HAT!

I've got a dying urge to feel the way you do Too close for comfort, bed and breakfast in a spoon (bed and breakfast in a spoon is referring to heating heroin in a spoon before you inject it and the relaxing feeling it brings after) The shortest breath of your young life A long walk home on Friday night You made one last stop at the store (i think he means you stopped to buy heroin from a dealer) So close to perfect, swear to hell, thought it was you This bouncing baby boy's now turning baby blue I've got your pictures on my walls I've got a long list of calls I must make to your existing family (i can't take that your dead, i have to call your living family) You had nine lives and one by one you chewed 'em up Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much (your way past dead) This won't take long, you said, I'm not going far Go wait in the car Go wait in the car (talking to ssomeone else, wait for me in the car i have to buy drugs basically) I often wonder what it feels like to be you A mess like this stuck on your hands with crazy glue (you couldn't shake the drug habit so it killed you) Ran out of time, no kiss goodbye Wish I could learn to let this sleeping dog die without lying to myself (wish i could just let it go, i knew it would happen) ~DS

Interesting thoughts... I don't know, it always seemed to me like it was about someone like a parent abandoning him as a child... "I've got a dying urge to feel the way you do Too close for comfort, bed and breakfast in a spoon" He wants to know why they left him "The shortest breath of your young life A long walk home on Friday night You made one last stop at the store" The last thing they did before leaving him "So close to perfect, swear to hell, thought it was you This bouncing baby boy's now turning baby blue" He thought they'd always be there, now he's gone and he feels like he's suffocating (or somthing) "I've got your pictures on my walls I've got a long list of calls I must make to your existing family" He has to tell the people the person left behind that they're gone "You had nine lives and one by one you chewed 'em up Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much This won't take long, you said, I'm not going far Go wait in the car" The person had so many chances and fucked up too many times, they told him to go wait, they'd be right back and never returned because they were running away Etc, etc. That's my thought. Anyone agree, or am I totally on crack?

In a way I think this song is about how he wants to be a vampire. I've got a dying urge to feel the way you do (You kinda gotta die to be a vampire ::the undead) Too close for comfort (You don't wanna be close to a vampire) A long walk home on Friday night (Friday NIGHT, yeah they dotn like sunlight.) So close to perfect, swear to hell, thought it was you (if he has an obbsession with vampires, considering he wants to be one, he think that they are perfect.) This bouncing baby boy's now turning baby blue (the baby had its blood drained) I've got your pictures on my walls (he's still obssessed, he has vampire pictures on his wall) ...and one by one you chewed 'em up (Vampire's biting or chewing....) Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much (supposedly they sleep in coffins, and we wasnt really burried if hes a vampire) This won't take long, you said, I'm not going far (he's going to be bit, im not going far, the fangs won't go in too far.) Ran out of time, no kiss goodbye (the suns came up so there was no time, no "kiss" or bite, he still wants to be a vampire.) Wish I could learn to let this sleeping dog die without lying to myself (he wishes he didn't have this urge and that it would go away with out him having to lie to himself.) Just a thought...

i totally agree with Dante Sint...when i first heard this song,it totally hit me that it was bout his fren's death and somehow it gotta be related to drugs..n i was right when i listened to e lyrics properly.. ~Too close for comfort, bed and breakfast in a spoon~ ...totally bout heroin on spoon..i read alot of books bout drugs n junkies..n im very sure he's talking bout heroin in this case.. I love skiba's lyrical content..they make me really analyse the songs n think many times what it actually means...some of them can actually mean more than one...i think he's a fantastic lyricist...i adore him and i worship him.. Long live skiba!

to me it sounds like someone that went in to rob a store and they got shot. that sounds dumb, but apparently they died before they got back into the car.

I commented on this song like 4 entries back and then i read reidy182's comment. But i think he was wrong about it being about a girl. "This bouncing baby boy's now turning baby blue." Im pretty sure quote refers to his friend being a kid and how when your a kid your innocent. And how his friend doing drugs killed the kid (innocence) inside of him. I dunno i dont know how to word it. If any1 thinks im wrong say what you think it means. I defiently dont think its really about a baby.

I'm pretty sure in this song Matt is talking about his friend comitting suicide. It's pretty much sumed up in "I've got a long list of calls I must make to your existing family You had nine lives and one by one you chewed 'em up Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much This won't take long, you said, I'm not going far Go wait in the car o wait in the car." Great Song, I saw alk3 perform it at the Agora in Ohio....

obvious meaning: heroin addiction and overdose. but hey... it could be about vampires... yeah. anyway, i'm thinking the car he's supposed to go wait in is where the title continental comes from. like lincoln continental, as Mirage311 says. 1 2 3 Next

Could be 'bout an abortion gone bad. Wild girl, junkie perhaps, "You had nine lives and one by one you chewed 'em up. Your final coffin nail's been driven far too much" she was constantly on to bad things, 'chewin her lives up' and it all got fucked when she got knocked up and went ahead and got herself an abortion.

It makes sense. And it goes so perfect with the "I've got a dying urge to feel the way you do" / "I often wonder what it feels like to be you". 'Cause if you think about it.. situations such as this a simple explanation won't do, you just wouldn't understand "why"until you feel what whoever left him was feeling at the time or these days. "Go wait in the car" that strikes to me as an attemp to protect him from something, so his folks had a real mess stuck in their hands with crazy glue;). Gotta hand it to you.. it's a great view on the song. Beat me with the pregnancy dilema. But I definitely beat the dude talkin'bout fuckin'vampires, this ain't no My Chemical Romance song! ahaha. I agree, anyone else? or prayingman and I are just totally on crack?
