| this is a good song... short but sweet and str8 to the point of Lacy Pattersons death... i like how the trio come up with songs like sadie, this, and the donner party that describe actual events... very cleverEdited by oofus on December 11 2005, at 12:46PM | |

| laci petersons death was heavily in the media way before that split came out...she disappeared the day before xmas 2002 and was found not too long after that. the split this song was on came out in late spring 2004. laci's death was big news in the bay area considering thats where laci was from, which explains matt's interest, since he lives in sf or berekely or something now...just read the lyrics and think about laci: "A deep dark secret down at the bottom But this bay can’t keep it unforgotten"; laci was found in the bay, her body tied up in some kind of box that was weighted down by home made anchors. it was supposedly dumped there by scott peterson in his boat who obviously did it to get rid of the body (I’ll grab the boat if you go grab the anchor, The tarp and twine and the weights that sank her), but her body turned up anyways and because of that scott peterson, laci's husband (or lover, duh), became prime suspect (They weren’t enough look who showed up A new light is shining through. Illuminating you; Your lover’s blood ran cold, Cutting off the hands he used to hold). theres really not much to pick apart.... | |

| wow, those lyrics are way long. haha. anyway, i heard on the trio message boards that the song is about laci peterson (scott peterson killing her, and all). i don't know if that's right, but it seems entirely plausible to me considering matt lives in the bay area and all... | |

| That's what the insert of the Promo says: A deep dark secret down at the bottom But this bay can’t keep it unforgotten. And a story that was told has now grown taller than we’d ever wish to be Beyond belief… I’ll grab the boat if you go grab the anchor, The tarp and twine and the weights that sank her. They weren’t enough look who showed up A new light is shining through. Illuminating you as we lay Side by side, dead and broken Our lives aren’t the same since the night yours went stolen. Blood ran black beneath the moonlight. Your lover’s blood ran cold, Cutting off the hands he used to hold. | |

| hah... you showed me. I dunno it seemed like Lacy was pretty recent and I thought that split was around forever... judging how matt's voice isn't fucked up yet. I guess that makes sense too cause Sadie is about a real person too. | |

| well i know this song is talking about him killing a girl and the tarp he used to wrap her + the weights to sink her weren't enough to keep her underwater and she floated up and was exposed by the moonlight, blah blah, what the hell does this song really mean? it's tough trying to figure the perpective. maybe it's another song relating to julie or FYA? or just a random one? | |

| Are you serious? There is no way at all this is about laci peterson, this song was around WAY before that ever happened, it came out on the alkaline trio/one man army split, and I'm not sure Alkaline Trio gives a rat's ass about laci... come now, people die every day. I think the song isn't supposed to be a story, they use symbolism a lot, sort of like their lyrics are sophisticated. It's a story at face value but if you sit back and think about it, it prolly means more. I read a quote some where where matt skiba said that people think tons of their songs are just about girls and break ups, but they're much deeper. I don't really feel like picking this one apart though. | |
