this song is about how everyone thinks songs like "all on black" are all about worshipping satan. matt puts in little lines because he likes to get a rise out of people. this song is about him being fed up with interviewers or whoever always asking him about the "secret" meanings in his songs. "we heard our records backwards too many times" he had to listen to the reporters point out different "evil" messages in their songs. i think the autoclave reference has something to do like them feeling like test subjects. autoclaves are used in science experiments to sterilize tools and stuff like that. She came, she came with sterile warnings Screaming from her place Singing "I wanna make you bleed" "SHE" is the reporter. before she even talks to them, she is looking to make them look bad. She wants to make them "bleed", suffer, or look evil for their apparent messages in their songs. "We watched them fall in line" The interviewers line up to talk to alkaline trio, like a press junket or whatever where each interviewer has like 10 minutes alone with the band to interview them, then its the next ones turn. Each interviewer probably asked the same question over and over again. "As I fell victim to double suicide on your television." I'm not sure what the "double" suicide is about. Perhaps he's saying they attempted to ruin the credibility of him and Alkaline Trio by asking these same questions of hiddene evil messages over and over. He's wasting his breath trying to explain himself and he feels like he's wasting his time dealing with these interviewers who don't really care about him to begin with, just trying to start controversy or whatever. "They told me I had hell to pay" They scolded him for putting those lyrics in his songs. They don't understand the Trio's songs to begin with so Matt had nothing to say and just walked away. He couldn't deal with that shhhhhiit any more. Well thats what I've always thought this song was about.

This is a good song but not one of my favs off the new album... reason being "wasting our time" is kind of overdoing it, since track #1 time to waste is such a good song, i think they could have come up with something better, esp. since its the same CD and all... other than that small complaint, its a pretty descent song.Edited by oofus on December 11 2005, at 12:48PM

Haha, I love this song, but I always was thinking the lyrics in the chorus were - "As I fell victim, to the devil's suicide." But, thank you for clearing me up on that. :) Anyways, I think that this might be about recording an album or something? I don't know, but the playing records backwards too many times and wasting their time.. Those are some feelings I would have if I recorded an album. Haha, tell me if I am crazy or not.

"I watched them fall in line, as I fell victim To double suicide on your television We heard our records backwards too many times" Columbine.... people came out in lines, it was plastered on TV... two people killed themselves... media blamed "subliminal messages" in lyrics at one point from what I remember. This would be consistent with their refernce to the West Memphis Three in "prevent this tragedy". However, the rest of the song doesn't tend to have much link with this. I like raz's interpretation, but i've always thought the chorus dealt with columbine because i dont know if you watched that on tv or not, but to see it live and unedited was rather disturbing. Hence i "fell victim" to it by watching it. just my 2 cents

'Not sure how this is supposed to feel Cutting like a red hot knife of surgical steel We're all fresh from the autoclave She came, she came with sterile warnings Screaming from her place Singing "I wanna make you bleed"' reminds me of an operation type thing... amazing song though

It is 'brought fresh from the autoclave.' An autoclave is something used to sterilize things at a high steam temperature, so the knife would still be read hot. 1

When I was in 5th grade, a friend of mine shot himself in the head with his stepfather’s revolver. It was during this time that metal band Judas Priest was in court defending themselves against charges that their music drove two teens to commit suicide. I vaguely remember people saying that Jeremy being a metal fan had something to do with his suicide. I also remember hearing that he was playing “Russian Roulette.” Either way, this song is referring to that time in my life. It was the first funeral I attended that wasn’t honoring someone over 80. J.J. – R.I.P. -Matt Skiba I’m not sure that this was a serious contender for the album, as we never got around to demoing vocals. Later, during preproduction, the song took shape and made the final cut. -Derek Grant

Another thing to add to his take on the song, is the line "we heard our records backwards too many times" would be that a lot of old Alkaline Trio songs were about heartbreak and the downsides of relationships, and dealing with that. Hearing that backwards may be a reference to not taking heed of past experience and doing something anyways.

My thought is that this song is basically about the realization of love and backing out from it once that realization is found. I think it touches on those consequences of backing out of love as well. The “story” if you will, really begins in the third line, “She came, she came with sterile warning”. This indicates that a woman/girl came into his life. As this figure enters his life, he is aware of what could happen. He could fall in love. The chorus is where the realization that he has fallen in love is discovered. It’s happens while watching a movie called, “Double Suicide”. This movie actually exists, and the movies plot has a lot to do with the song. In the movie, there is a “double suicide” at the end. The circumstances in the movie are very similar to that of Romeo and Juliet, however in “Double Suicide” they actually plan the suicide at the end, it doesn’t happen tragically. So, in the song, “Singing, I want to make you bleed” is essentially this idea that they will be together in love. In the movie, death was the only option for the love to last. He essentially is comparing his situation to that in the movie. So, he decides that it isn’t worth it, to die over love. This thought is further supported with the fact that he has listened to too many of his albums, which for the most part implore the hurt, and loss of love. He ends the relationship saying, “I’m wasting my breath, we’re wasting our time”. I would imagine that at this point she slaps him (probably a backhand) at the absolute disgust she has for the situation and for him. Thus, he falls painfully to his knees. His friends had told him from the beginning, he “had hell to pay” for entering into this relationship. Whether it be falling in love, or the departure from that feeling. And at this point after breaking up, those words are reassurance to him that he did the right thing. He came close to heaven by being in love, but couldn’t justify it in the end so he walked away from it. At this point, we have to revisit the beginning of the song. He’s not sure how walking away feels (line 1), but it hurts. Hence, the description of the knife in lines 2 and 3. The fact that the lyrics at the beginning of the song are actually the end feelings probably signal some type of circular idea to his thoughts on this subject. Having the situation run over and over in his mind and not coming up with any viable answers to his pain.

The lyrics are actuall "screaming from her BLADE singing I wana make you bleed" check the lyrics in the booklet!!!! I really like this song, its kinda creepy. The herd our records backwards too many times could just mean the repetition of life (and life being so shite) made him wana die. You heard the expression change the record!!

I'm pretty sure it's "fresh from the autoclave," not "fresh from the autoplay," because that makes no sense at all.

as for the actual song i believe the raz has it but i was hanging out the other day and heard the "we've heard our records backwards too many times" so i played the song backwards most of the song is undecipherable(sp?) but i could make out in the chorus matt is saying "i miss you" and then as the chorus leaves he says "i miss you so miss me in return" i'm not sure but this could mean the he committed suicide first and knew that the chick would miss him so she'd kill herself too, hence DOUBLE suicide
