| to me this is about someone putting their faith in god, and getting nothing in return. And in the end he realises that the devil was in his corner all along. | |

| I agree with DarkSkiesAhead's interpretation, but it's a mark in the 'plus' column, to me. I think the 'dark father' stuff is sarcastic, but the heart of it is about losing faith in God, and becoming an Atheist. Good move, I say. | |

| The song never specifies a religion, but the word "God" has pretty much the same meaning throughout the world, just different stories behind the name. Only alk3 know if they were talking about a specific religion or a generic God. | |

| i really think this song is about trying to let God into one's life but just doubting it and losing faith, then finally realizing that he was there all along. | |

| Since Matt himself told my friends and I that he's a satanist (but not the "Hey let's sacrifice animals" kind, the "believing that every person is their own god" kind) and Derek has a pentagram tattoo on his chest, I think that its about trying the whole God thing, realizing that it didn't work and then realizing that the "dark father" was there all along when God wasn't. | |

| a song can be interpreted by its listeners in many ways. ultimately there is a true meaning only known by whoever wrote the song. this song seems to have reference to being let down by god or religion but it can also refer to being let down by a friend. either way, as long as whatever vibe you get from the song is good, thats what its all about. | |

| this song poked out at me as religious the first time i heard it. he rejects god, how hard is that to see? "i rejected the faith, in your holy rays, is what it comes down to" that cannot be interpreted as anything from a girl, what girl is "holy"? this song represents a lot of what i felt when i made the switch from christianity to atheism. where's god when you need him? sure as fuck not around. nice to know you put so much into something like that, and the fuck cant even help you out in return. | |

| now that i think about it, i think that this just might be about religion, it makes sense. also, look at the fucking title of the song....Hell Yes. By the way, atheism and agnasticism are for lazy people that don't wanna figure it out on their own. Deism is the way to go once you think about it. | |

| ok, this religion stuff is over the top now. granted, everyone has their own opinion, but from the first time that i heard this song, i never got a religious meaning behind it. ever. i saw it as a girl who left this guy. she was the good in the relationship, and she was turning him around. matt (from my interpretation) used symbolism to characterize the two individuals. he was seen as the "dark" and she was the "light". everyone said them getting together would help him out, make him become better, but their relationship ended, and he just back to his old ways. i have a lot more ideas on it, but my neck hurts now and i want to go to bed. i'll post more later. but it's not about fucking god you dipshits | |

| I think the song is about not being able to be a good follower of god bless me dark father i have sinned ive done it before and ill do it again. I believe its about just accepting the fate he cant follow gods way of life and i think the satan thing is just added for a little fun, but at the same time even in alk3 has always had little sataninc things like in the booklet of goddammit by the lyrics for trouble breathing i think is the song the goats skull and 666...I dont know 1 2 3 4 5 Next | |

| I was reading the lyrics to this song... and, ever since the first time i heard it, i thought it was about god... but, now i think the song is about the guy giving up on god and turning satanical? "bless me dark father for i have sinned, i've done it before and i'll do it again. it keeps me warm and makes you smile, been beneath me all the while."... i dunno... :-\ just sounds that way to me? | |

| But then again, it could all be just sarcastic, in which it comes back to relationships. and the "bless me dark father for i have sinned, i've done it before and i'll do it again, cuz it keeps me warm..." could mean that regardless of how many times he has belief in that things work out, even though he knows it won't, he goes back for another try and gets screwed over. | |

| Ok I'm sorry, but the people who have said that this song is about a girl or breakup are completely retarded. I love alkaline trio, but this song made me lose a lot of respect for them. Don't get me wrong, musically this is one of their best songs, but lyrically it is so disappointing. The main body of the song is about how God was never there for him, even though he was trying. The chorus then talks about how the devil was always there no matter what. All I can do is hope that this song is darkly sarcastic. | |
