This is one of my favorite one of their songs, it's all about getting wasted with your best friend to forget about the person that left you.

I'm pretty sure My Friend Peter is about his friend Peter. Not Saint Peter or his member, just a drinking friend. 24 beers won't kill you either. Just take a look at Matt's lyrics in most songs, I wouldn't be surprised if his tolerance is unlimited. Peter probably lives far away, but although this girl lives closer she probably the farthest thing from Matt emotionally. Theres my take.

My favourite Alkaline Trio song, this song is perfection. I just cannot put the perfectness of this song into the English language. It's just the most amazing song ever.

ok maybe im gettin this wrong but i dont think "peter" is a real friend he is talking about, "my friend Peter who lives so fucking far away yet not as far as you even though you live right down my fucking street" i think that would make peter himself i believe, and that kind of alter ego you get when you just got fucked over, where you dont want do go anwhere or do anything, but when you talk to people you want to put on the act you are fine, and doing fine hangin out with "peter" quite often. when in actuality its all about "I'm tired of sleeping with myself I'm tired, all those drinks and drugs no longer help im tired of lying about not thinking of you" but in the end "my friend Peter can tell me what to do"

i never tried to look to deep into this song. it always seemed to me like the punk song he wrote before he decided to become a lyrical mastermind. although the lyrics are awesome and funny, it just doesn't really seem like his best work. keep in mind that this song still rocks. interestingly enough they never played this song the first couple of times i saw them live. however, last year when i saw them they played it last. 1 2 Next

yeah so this song rocks. i live in vermont during the school year and new jersey in the summer, in jersey i have a friend peter (like everyone else) and when im upset about a girl or just missin ole dirty jersey i listen to this songs and it cheers me up. at one point when i was really missin nj i had the line "maybe my friend Peter can tell me what to do" in my info, and my friend peter wrote me and said "this friend peter will always be there for you" i was so overcome with happiness when i read that. and pete if you read this ill always be there for you too.

I think Panuarnchyk is definately confused. By those lyrics he's saying that the "you" he's refering to, is so distant from him (emotionally, physcologically, etc.) that it seems she's in a far off place, even though she lives down the street.

alright well I agree with everyone else that this song completley rocks. But this song relates to this guy I know Peter but it's becuz I don't care who he's with or what he's doing and I would much rather be with friends then be hanging out with him!

yo yo. saw them live in chicago. before they played this song, they pointed to a guy in the audience who waved, etc and was introuced as "my friend peter", by skiba. the whole song has amazingly clever [if nothing else] lyrics.

this song really describes exactly my present situation wtih my ex. im sure it does that for lots of people. and i think that "peter" might be someone inside yourself. *im tired of lying about not thinking of you* you just wanna get that person out of your life, out of your head. you know that they're really nothing THAT special now, but for some reason they still have this hold over you. its horrible. but breaking up does indeed suck, and thats why we need songs like this. love and peace.

I was just wondering if maybe Peter is his friend that was referred to in "Fuck You Aurora", bout how he lost his friend when he moved to Aurora, IL. Just cuz he talks bout Peter being so far away. Either way I think he just needs a friend to drink with and console him.

Everyone's got their "friend peter"... the guy/girl who will drink with you after you get left by "The one", who will point out every shortcoming of that ex, and make sure you're not too drunk to make it up your stairs by the end of the night.

Great song when you need that friend who will do anything for you... and you know that you'd do the same for them, no matter how far they live from you. This song has been on repeat the past few days, since my now ex has decided I was unworthy of a phone call from him for two weeks
