| I found this song to have some of the hardest parts to decipher the lyrics. I was hoping someone would figure it out before I made an attempt to submit anything, but this one doesn't do it much justice, so hear are some of my thoughts as to what some of the parts might be: First verse: "Over and out of it for one more plane ride out I'm not sure, I never was if this would all... [?] Wait here, a month or two will pass, I'm sure I won't Faith, dear, enough to get you by until we're home" Chorus: "And I wish I'd go With lots to smoke And I wish That I'd run You would Eventually know [?] Take me home Tuck me in Go down, do it again" I know I still left some parts unclear, but they are just too damn hard to pick apart by ear. If anyone has any idea what they might be, give your variations. As for what this song means--assuming those lyrics are somewhat correct--it could deal with the stress and monotony of life. 'Tis a sweet song. | |

| I think that this could possibly be Dans best song. Its just so good and the way he sings it make sit so amazing. But I like others, hoped that this song would be an acoustic track but I'm glad its not | |

| Agreed. Anyone who bought the album can see for themselves, it's "I wish I don't wish I still smoked.' Now, to begin, Alkaline Trio songs are never as literal as they seem. When I first heard this song, I thought it was the basic love ballad, something along the lines of Dan missing his wife on the tour, thinking of all the things he's done (or tried to do) for her (i.e., giving up smoking, writing). But lately I got a different idea. I think this may be Dan longing for the old days of Alkaline Trio, back in the "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" days. After all, in the chorus, he makes subtle references to songs from that album: "I wish I don't wish I still smoked" could easily be an allusion to the title track off that album, one of old school Alk3's fans' favorites. In the song "Maybe I'll Catch Fire," Dan sings "Most exciting thing I do, hang halfway out a third floor window, maybe throw lit cigarettes down... and maybe I'll catch fire." So "I wish I don't wish I still smoked" may not be the in the smoking-of-cigarettes sense, but in the ACTUALLY being-on-fire-giving-off-smoke sense. Soon after in the chorus, he croons "Take me home, tuck me in," both of which could easily be taken from "Maybe I'll Catch Fire" songs (in "You've Got So Far To Go," Dan's lyrics are "Let's walk home; let's be afraid"; "Tuck Me In" is the title of another song on said album). After this is "Moon go down, do it again." The three afore mentioned songs were three of the Trio's most popular from that album... after one night was over, they'd have to go and play those songs again somewhere else. Now, the references to these songs in a remorseful, missing-you style is emphasized by the verse, which does seem to be Dan struggling on tour. The longing for the "Maybe I'll Catch Fire Days" comes from the fact that after "Good Mourning" especially, Alkaline Trio was exposed to a much wider audience, and hence their lives on the road got much more busy and hectic. So basically, in a nutshell, this could be Dan wishing he didn't have to play as many damn shows as he does now, and could go back to the days when they were only known to a select audience. 1 2 Next | |

| Well, I think i'll be the first to point out that the song seems to be obviously about Dan trying to give up smoking (presumably weed) for the good of his wife and their relationship and wishing he could do more for her. Ah well, breathtakingly epic song anyway. Just remember that while tearing my interpretation to shreds. | |

| Probably one of my favorite new A3 songs. I'm not sure what it means, but I empathize with it (if that is even possible..) and it just clicked with me. Sometimes I think that the A3 songs just click with me, regardless of if I know the meanings of the songs or not. Does anyone else have that feeling? And I like the opinion in which Obiwan6986 said he is on tour. I think every Alkaline Trio song meshes A3s feelings, our feelings, and other people's feelings all into one beautiful song. | |

| I'm feeling what obiwan said. He's away from home, possibly becuase he's on tour, and wants get home as soon as possible becuase he's missing someone. It fits rather perfectly. It's a good song, but I prefer the punkrock of the Asian Man releases rather than the toned down songs on the Vagrant CDs. | |

| How could anyone look at this song's lyrics and believe that it has anything to do with smoking? Perhaps there is something happening in Dan's life that had to do with smoking or the act of quitting such, but I sincerely believe that the smoke reference in this song has to do with, you know, what's mentioned: speed. The movement and speed of said word: smoke. Which also means, of course, that I disapprove of the notion that he's saying anything other than "fast as smoke". Anything else is absurd. | |

| i believe the chorus is "i wish i didn't wish that i still smoked". when i first picked up the album, i was hoping this was an acoustic track (blue in the face was a breath taking way to end good mourning), but i really ended up enjoying this song. a short and sweet offering from danny. his songs always tend to use less distortion than matts and more of a twangy, clean guitar sound. | |

| this song is definitely about the strain distance can put on a relationship. it sounds like everytime he heads out for another tour, he gets really nervous and anxious that when he comes back, his wife may not want to be married to him anymore after all the time apart. in the chorus, when he says he wishes he still smoked, he means he's wishing he had a way to alleviate all the tension he's experiencing; it's a nice way of saying "things are not good." | |

| Here are the lyrics to what I can possibly imagine: Over and out of it for one more plane ride out, I'm not sure, I never was if this would all let softer words. Wait here a month or two will pass, I'm sure I won't. Faith dear, enough to give you by until we're home. And I wish, I'd go as fast as smoke. And I wish, That i wrote you one original note. Take me home, tuck me in. Then go down, do it again. Take me home, tuck me in. Then go down, do it again. Over and out of it for one more plane ride out, I'm not sure, I never was if this would all let sound... And I wish, I'd go as fast as smoke. And I wish, That i wrote you one original note. Take me home, tuck me in. Then go down, do it again. Take me home, tuck me in. Then go down, do it again. | |
