| The lyrics for the song are closely based on the poem "Fun" by Wyn Cooper . Crow had written the music for the song but was unhappy with the accompanying lyrics. Her producer bought her ten random books of poetry and Crow adapted "Fun" to accompany the music. Cooper is listed as a co-writer and receives royalties from the song. | |

| Not a lot of Sheryl Crow fans around here, are there? This is definitely one of her best. Great song, if I were weary of society and I wanted to spend my life sitting in a bar. To each his own, and this song still kicks. | |

| this song reminds me of my mom ... i dont know why i remember this but we heard it on the radio and she laughed and said "your dad used to wash a Datsun once a week for a man at a carwash, he didnt wanna get his nice clothes dirty." after she died my dad and i heard the song one night and he laughed and told me she used to hang around bars and play with bottles and matches if they were around... this song means happier and simpler times to me. so wrapped up in life now .. and all i wanna do is have some fun... | |

| I peel the label off of every beer bottle i drink too & I always play with matches. I usually lite the whole pack & throw it in the ashtray flaming & get yelled at. I like how she mentions Datsuns at the carwash. The name Datsun hasn't been used since 1983 when the company changed the name to Nissan. | |
