| I can personally relate to this song. Me and my ex just broke up a few months ago after a really long relationship. She has this new boyfriend and it just kills me to think about them together. I know i'm the right one for her..but just wish she knew. Her new boyfriend is a total jerk and the only reason he likes her is because of the way she looks. I love her for her, inside and out. And i think that is exactly what this song is trying to convey. | |

| i'm not quite sure what the exact message in the song is... it could be the old boyfriend saying "i'll always love her more than you/know her better than you" or the new boyfriend saying "she's with me becuase she wants me and i love her more than you ever did that's why we're together" who knows... i just like the song. my fav. by him. | |

| i believe with LiveUrLife that it can be 2 guys falling in love with the same girl, or just an ex boyfriend singing to a new one. i think there's a lot of possibilites for what this song means, and that's what makes it so good - because everyone can fit it to their own situation. it makes me cry, but it's a beautiful song. | |

| I also agree that it's an guy talking about his ex's new boyfriend... kind of like saying "I know her better than you, and she doesn't want you." Has anyone heard the version with U2's "One" mixed in it? I hope you know that she doesn't mean you (enter U2 lyrics) Love is a temple Love the higher love Love is a temple Love the higher love You ask me to enter Then you make me crawl But I can't keep holding on To what you've got When all you've got is hurt (back to the song) I don't know where you're coming from... It's pretty powerful. | |

| I personally think this song is about a "best guy friend" and he is the one that this girl goes to whenever her relationships don't work out. She runs to him crying and he is there for her. The twist I see in these lyrics is the point when he says "and when she says she wants somebody else i hope you know she doesn't mean you" I think he is saying this to himself. In my eyes this is the classic case of the nice guy that the girl goes running to saying she'll never find a guy that is sweet and really cares when all along the guys she is looking for is the friend she is crying to. It is really a song about a guy realizing that no matter what he does his best girl friend will never see him like she sees all these other jerks she has been dating! But with my novel of an explination of these lyrics aside I love Howie I think he is a younger John Mayer and is going to make it big..... | |

| to me, i'm judging off a past experience that i had and makes me think of this song, so it kinda seems like thast what it means. well, I was totally head over heels in love with this girl, and i tried to have my chance with here, and it never happened. So she would date other guys and i would get So bitter. And all of my friend liked her, but knowing how she was, i knew that no matter what happened with her and her boyfriend, i knew she wouldn't pick them to start a relationship. And She would tell me how much she liked these guys, and how she didn't think it would ever work with the two of us. So thast the comparison with the line :Thats why i'm wondering why you had to tell me whats going on in your head" cause she would tell me what she thought and it hurt me so much i wondered why she ever told me. BUt, yeah, thats what i think the song means. | |

| to me this song is about either an ex b/f who is jealous of a new boyfriend or just two guys who are both falling in love with a girl. Its rather confusing but i love the chorus. I can see an ex boyfriend telling that to a new boyfriend that when she breaks down and makes a sound you;ll never hear her the way that i do, its like yea you might care for her, but i know every little thing about her and i can't let her go. Now i could be wrong but all i know is Howie Day is an amazing song writer and a great artist and this is one of my fave songs by him. | |

| I think this song is not wanting the person you love to be with other people...you feel you know him/her better and could treat them better. i love this. I'm making up piano with it and changing it to 'he says' :)...it's really pretty on the piano... | |

| I think this is the opposite of how most people see it. It's the new boyfriend talking to the old boyfriend. He's in the present, having this wonderful time with his girlfriend. The old boyfriend still loves her, and tells the new boyfriend about it. That explains the "I'm wondering why you had to tell me what's going on in your head" part. The girl, though, loves the new boyfriend and doesn't want to go back to the old one. The new boyfriend doesn't want to hear it at all, and he expresses in the song that the old boyfriend will NEVER have another chance with the girl, even if something goes wrong with the new boyfriend. "She doesn't mean you" clearly says this. | |

| and when she says she wants somebody else i hope you know she doesn't mean you and when she breaks down and makes a sound you'll never hear her the way that i do and when she says she wants someone to love i hope you know that she doesn't mean you and when she breaks down and lets you down i hope you know that she doesn't mean you this is so about how he sees this girls new boyfriend... he will never be good enough for her, and she will always love him even if they arent together | |

| That's a great way of looking at the song. I was thinking about that, but I think it could also be about a guy whose best friend is a girl and he is singing this song to her boyfriend because he feels that their friendship and his love for her is so much stronger than the existing bond between her and her boyfriend. | |

| I think this song is a reflection on past love. Howie reminds you that you can't deny the influence of a former love or a broken relationship on a person's heart. No matter what, a little piece of that person will remain with you... | |

| The version with U2's one lyrics in it is incredible. He sings it with such passion. I think it adds to the songs sence of he loves her but it just isn't working out. | |

| i had this whole idea of what this song meant and what i was going to write and then i got here and everone had the same idea...meh. i agree especially with sk8ter88 cause that was what i mostly thought. or just in general a guy telling his friend that this girl he's in love with will never really love him because she's always going to want something different or better or something. and the way that he knows this is he was once in a relationship with her...but you've all already said this so.... | |
