Don't know when I'll be back again Oh, babe, I hate to go {last time only}
verse 2
There's so many times I've let you down, So many times I've played around,
I tell you now, that they don't mean a thing.
Ev'ry place I go I'll think of you, Ev'ry song I sing I'll sing for you.
When I come back I'll bring your wedding ring.
Chorus
verse 3
Now the time has come to leave you, One more time let me kiss you,
Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way.
Dream about the days to come When I won't have to leave alone,
About the times I won't have to say:
Chorus with added Finale

| I used to think this song was pure cheese but I worked in Hong Kong for a few months and a really sad German guy put it the jukebox in a bar about 10 times in a row. Every time I hear it now it reminds me of being apart from my girlfriend sitting in a bar on the other side of the world and it cracks me up every time. | |

| such a poignant, beautiful song. parents love it, kids love it, its timeless. yet its tragic how its been made legendary by how he died-- it shouldnt overshadow the beauty of the song itself | |

| havnfuninwashington! Janis never did this song. However there is a version around on the internet claiming to be with Janis Joplin but the singer actually is Chantal Kreviazuk. A great version in my opinion. BUT Janis Joplin NEVER did 'Leaving on a jet plane'. There was an early version with the title 'Oh Babe - I hate to go'. Mary Travers (Mary in Peter, Paul and Mary) didn't like the title and got permission from John to use 'Leaving on a jet plane' as title instead. | |

| I've heard this song is about vietnam. As in he's getting on a jet plane to fly across the ocean, and when he gets back he'll mary her. | |

| I love this song and was intrudced to it by my mother. I listen to this song everday. But i think this is ironic he sang this song not to long before he died on a jet plane. | |

| serafim is right about Every place I go, I think of you Every song I sing, I sing for you but is wrong about the wedding ring line...John Denver says bring, Mary from Peter, Paul, and Mary says wear. | |

| Correction: Ev’ry place I go, I’ll think of you Ev’ry song I sing, I’ll sing for you When I come back, I’ll bring your wedding ring should read: Every place I go, I think of you Every song I sing, I sing for you When I come back, I’ll wear your wedding ring | |

| yeah it was actually originally peter paul and marry that sang that song, and there were about a dozen of people that sang it too. that song ist just so powerful. i'm doing an exchange year right now, and it fitted for both situations, when i left my home country, and even more now that i leave from here and leaving loved ones behind, just that "i'll bring your wedding ring" part doesn't fit ;) | |

| yeah i know so many people have done this song. like peter paul and mary and yeah thats cool but no one does just as good as john. you just hear the pain in the sound. Someone once told me it was about when he was just getting started in the music world and had to be flying a lot. | |

| This is such a mello song, and such a sad song. It makes me think of saying goodbye or moving on. I remember my uncle said they sung this song the night before his college graduation, just kept singing and singing it. What a great song for that situation. | |

| Oh, the horrible twisted irony! John Denver singing "Leaving on a Jet Plane" would be like if AC/DC wrote a song called "Choking on My Own Vomit". | |

| The Janis Joplin version is better. It has way more emotion and captures the essence of the song. I like the less literal meaning of this song, as in I know I've done some crumbly stuff to you, and cheated, but I wasn't in the right state of mind, and still aren't. However, I will get myself together, and please wait for me, and when I do, I will devote myself to you....great song, no matter how you interpret it. | |
