Diamond Head Biography

Diamondhead is a census-designated place located in Hancock County, Mississippi, USA. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 5,912.

Diamondhead is located at 30°23'0" North, 89°22'22" West (30.383444, -89.372660) GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 30.3 km² (11.7 mi²). 29.4 km² (11.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.16% water.

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there are 5,912 people, 2,559 households, and 1,916 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 201.3/km² (521.5/mi²). There are 3,084 housing units at an average density of 105.0/km² (272.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.35% White, 1.78% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 2.94% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,559 households out of which 23.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.8% are married couples living together, 5.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% are non-families. 21.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.64.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 18.8% under the age of 18, 3.2% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 29.8% from 45 to 64, and 24.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 48 years. For every 100 females there are 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.9 males.
