VERSE 1
G Gmaj7 C
City girls just seem to find out early,
Am D
how to open doors with just a smile.
G Gmaj7 C
A rich old man and she won't have to worry;
Am C G
she'll dress up all in lace and go in style.
G Gmaj7 C
Late at night a big old house gets lonely;
Am D
I guess every form of refuge has its price.
G Gmaj7 C
And it breaks her heart to think her love is only
Am C G
Given to a man with hands as cold as ice.
G Gmaj C
So she tells him she must go out for the evening
Am D
To comfort an old friend who's feeling down.
G Gmaj7 C
But he knows where she's goin' as she's leavin';
Am C G
She's headed for that cheatin' side of town.
(CHORUS)
G C G Em Bm Am D
You can't hide your lyin' eyes, and your smile is a thin disguise.
G G9 C A Am D G
I thought by now you'd realize there ain't no way to hide those lying eyes.
VERSE 2
On the other side of town a boy is waiting
with stormy eyes and dreams no-one could steal
She drives on throught the night anticipating
Cos she makes him feel the way she used to feel
She rushes to his arms they fall together
She whispers that its only for a while
She says that soon she'll be coming back forever
She pulls away and leaves him with a smile
CHORUS
VERSE 3
G Gmaj7 C
She gets up and pours herself a strong one
Am D
And stares out at the stars up in the sky.
G Gmaj7 C
Another night, it's gonna be a long one;
Am C G
She draws the shade and hangs her head to cry.
And she wonders how it ever got this crazy
She thinks about a boy she knew in school
Did she get tired or did she just get lazy
She's so far gone, she feels just like a fool
G Gmaj7 C
My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things;
Am D
You set it up so well, so carefully.
G Gmaj7 C
Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things;
Am C G
You're still the same old girl you used to be.
(Chorus)
There aint no way to hide your lyin eyes
Honey you cant hide your lyin eyes
END
after the thrill is gone.. everything is dust in the wind..

| lol @ the advertisement underneath the lyrics. i think psyche was pretty spot on. but i'm not quite sure if she left the old man to be with the young guy, then felt the same and wanted to contact "a boy she knew in school" orrrrrrr if she is still in limbo between the old man and the young guy with the line "She wonders how it ever got this crazy" and "She's so far gone she feels just like a fool" which kinda suggests she's basically left the old guy, but hasn't, yet she's so far gone she may as well of left him. | |

| Kaaaaa, I think kobo1d got teh murder part from this verse: My, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things You set it up so well, so carefully But, to me, this part of that last verse: Ain't it funny how your new life didn't change things You're still the same old girl you used to be Says to me that, while she does end up with the boy she cheated with, she ends up feeling exactly the same way she did with her original husband. | |

| Woman marries older man for money. Man loves her, but can't satisfy her. She cheats. He knows. She promises the younger man she is cheating with she will leave the old man and run away with him. It's a lie. He knows. She murders the old man. The young man she wants to run away with wont. She is now the the one being lied to. Nothing changed in her life by killing the old man. She is still unhappy. Full circle. | |

| this song has fairly simple lyrics(amazing song thou) but this is how i feel meaning wise it means a girl marries a rich man and she just spends his money all day and she doesent love him like hes does to her but she has an afair with a guy she finds attractive and likes and she trys to hide it but he can tell in her eyes that she lying 1 | |

| The first and last verses seem to indicate her no-hassle trip to the abortionist. Rich old man, no problems, dressed up nice, and when it's over it's over ("new life didn't change things"). Still the same old girl -- not older, not wiser. | |

| gotta love the music to this song. you know who it reminds me of? anna nicole smith. she married that old guy for "love" but to me it seemed like MONEY.. and i can't say she cheated on him like in this song. it's a bittersweet song, am i right or am i right? the part.. "she's headed for the cheatin' side of town. you can't hide your lyin' eyes." gives me a sad smile. | |

| MookieBomber, i am glad that everything worked out for you. The triangle i was in did not go so well for me. And actually this was one of the songs that she wanted me to listen to. I see why now. Every word speaks of the relationship that we had. i had to let her get back to her life and out of mine. | |

| I think that this song is about more than just a woman who is cheating on her husband. Yes, she is lying to her husband, and it's obvious; but she is also lying to herself. She tries to tell herself that she is happy, first that the rich old man makes her happy, and then that having an affair makes her happy. But she's "still the same old girl you used to be" and she can't deny to herself that she is disappointed with what her life has become. | |

| According to the Eagles' biography book, the original inspiration of the song came from a waitress who was serving them when they were on the road. After she took their order, one of the guys said, "She sure has some lyin' eyes" and then they all started scribbling lyrics on napkins. That was the platform and then of course the rest of the story was built from there... | |

| You gotta love The Eagles. Not only do they have great lyrics that flow, they are able to shape the lyrics into a tune that is just as great as the lyrics. Both the music and the lyrics in this song convey the passion and hurt in this song. You know a band is really good when they make music like this. | |

| when i saw the eagles live glen frey commented "i dedicate this song to my first wife, plantiff" he also added "this song is about that secret love triangle that you cant never win" basically its about a woman that goes off and cheats on her husband and tries to hide it but it is very obvious. EAGLES ROCK!! | |

| I don't know why, but this song cracks me up beyond measure. But I LOVE it..definitely one of the Eagle's best...doesn't top Desperado, but this is a great song. I like the moral behind it..it can relate to a lot of things in life. | |
