this is a very amazing song and is very well written and i love the message that lies behind the words....the phrase mountain range in my living room refers to the instinctive tendencies of people to ignore their problems and "sweep them under the rug"....it criticizes the instincts of man to not have enough inside them to face their problems eye to eye but rather ingore and let them build up inside themselves.....very well written with a very powerful meaning behind it

Yeah I like the music video to this song...it kinda explains the middle part when everyone is just talking...but I dont think they should of included it in the song, though...for the music video its good, but just listening to the song it kinda ruins it...that middle part is kinda freaky too once you listen to it...i dont know, it just gives me the chills...anyways, great great song ....I love everything cept the people talking in the middle....

DontCountToday, I think you're pretty much right on the talking parts - I listened to it on my discman and could hear quite a lot of what they were saying. As for why it's there.. seems to be emphasising the differences in what people think is important in life. The song's fab.

I BELIEVE this is what is said during that "mumbo jumbo" near the end of the song, when there are just random people talking. Please correct me if you believe I am incorrect, but i listened to it over and over and I'm pretty sure most of it is right: I’m molly, and when I grow up, I’m going to have an academy award…at least 2. Every morning when I have that feeling and its kind of (maybe?) and I’ve always imagined since I’m little that the leaves were on the bottom of my toes walking on the leaves. And I sometimes (they?) swallow me up (affectionately??) (kids laughing and playing) My name’s Amanda, and when I get older… I’m Tim, From Arkansas. Love Jesus. Got 3 Kids. Married 21 years. Names Garden…this is important whatever you do, please, please (don’t know here) ..and like we wake up, and Molly’s like “Oh, its 8:45, we’ve been passed out for like 25 minutes.” And then like, she hits her like watch again and it was the stop watch. And then we went to the real time and it was like 2 AM in the morning. We both passed out naked in my house for like 4 hours. 4 hours. After we fucked and we threw up. (Molly says here: “Actually it was 6 hours.” ) It wasn’t 6 hours. That was the best. Mollys naked on my, on my, on my…on my….. AT THE END: Michael Calsgrove, and my goal in life is to make sure everybody else is havin a good time.

the middle part is fine, you dont need to hear a lot of it to understand that it's people talking about what they want in life or reflecting on their life. Not only is this song about sweeping your problems under the rug and needing to be a man and face your problems, it seems like it's got a little bit to do with growing up, dreams, and that sort of thing. The chorus and the middle part lead me to that conclusion.

I think this song means that you cannot just hide from your problems in life, you must face them head on. "it's never been harder to fall there's nothing to grab and that's all i want to hold onto just another sweep and it'll be fine but this carpet's got hills and i can't see this helping at all " Its not going to help if you just sweep your problems under a carpet. (making the carpet seem "hilly" thus the name of the song...."

I would expect the people talking is a way to express people simply being themselves. Yes, the song is certainly about NOT hiding (sweeping) aspects of yourself (under the rug). This would suggest that you should just be who you are, be yourself. That's why all the clips of people talking are just being themselves and being completely honest. Sure, there's nothing publically significant about personal stories and dreams, but these people are speaking something meaningful from their hearts. And that is what's important to them. And that's what should be important to you.
