Sounds like a girl that's stubborn, closeminded, and turns herself into the victim. I know a few that I can relate this song too.

is it 'clever is a general word' or 'clever is a gentle word'? my friend is positive that it says 'gentle'

God, I love this album - I love how all the tracks flow into eachother. I don't know really what the song means...I think it's about a girl who has 'issues' so to speak, and a guys outside opinion on her, that watches from afar. Like, a friend maybe? Since then he has the sleeping part...it could be a friend viewpoint on a friend (girl) and what she's doing to make ends meet.

i like this song. i think it's about a girl who's clever (obviously) and tries to justify her mistakes and make herself into the victim. i.e. "while always showing that she's hurt" that's my take at least

adding to that: general makes sense because hes just saying that clever is a general word to use to describe her and/or the situation, but its the best word that he can use. gentle also makes sense though because its the 'nicest' way of putting what he has to say.

this reminds me of dealing with a sociopath or simply a pathological liar. they're the smartest types. always looking to make someone their pawn and hurt them. its scary...

i think it is saying how being clever has its good things and as well " produces results" but also the cleverness can come back and bite ya in the a$$ as well. thats what i gather from it.
