This is one of my favourite eels songs, if not THE favourite. It's best done on
the acoustic, as it is done on the album.
C G F Dsus2
Standing in the dark outside the house
Breathing in the cold and sterile air
F Am
And I was thinking how it must feel
Em Dsus2
To see that little light
F Am
And watch it as it dissapears
Em
And fades into
G
And fades into the night
C G F Dsus2
So I know you're going pretty soon
Radiation sore throat got your tongue
F Am
Magic markers tattoo you
Em Dsus2
And show it where to aim
F Am
And stranger break their promises
Em
You won't feel any
G
You won't feel any pain.
C F
And the streets are jammed with cars
Rockings their horns
To the race to the wire
F C G
Of the unfinished line
C G F Dsus2
Thought that I'd forget all about the past
But it doesn't let me run too fast
F Am
And I just want to stand outside
Em Dsus2
And know that this is right
F
And this is true
Am
And I will not
Em
Fade into
G
Fade into the night
C F
Standing her in the dark
And that just about it.

| Grief must be one of the most powerful processes a person can go through. I haven't gone through it yet-- not truly. Listening to this song, understanding E, and reading these comments I can almost emphathize Grief. The images of standing in the cold, watching cars blow past, etc. can really stab you in the heart with an icicle when you take a moment to try to experience it. Mr. E is a gorgeous writer with terrible inspriation. It'd be very hard to try to convey these things if you hadn't gone through some of the shit like that. It makes you wonder what poetry or lyrics hasn't he published that he's holding on to? Is there something that's too personal for him to share? What songs didn't they record and produce? Peace. | |

| this song is so sad and emotional. its about him thinking about someone that has died, and hoping that they can see him wherever he is, because the memories of them won't fade in him. | |
