| this song is flippin good. to me it sounds like its about dying and going to heaven-" watch me rise up and leave all the ashes you made out of me"-cremation perhaps? for me, i find songs (often christian bands) to be really like, uplifting when the song breaks out into other people (perhaps a choir) singing as well. its awesome. i reckon this band is christian... | |

| A brilliant song, basically a fuck you song to anybody who's ever made a dig at you, in my case it was on repeat when a guy messed me around, "When you said that we were wrong, life goes on" a great line for a great song | |

| gm-enator, surely a more obvious meaning behind the "ashes" would be the idea of a Phoenix rising from the ashes, a fresh start. | |

| I was in a relationship for 4 years and it came to the point where I felt supressed from being who I was because I had all sorts of responsibilities (house, mortgage, job etc). Whilst I don't have any grudges against the other person, this song really matches how I've felt towards the end of our time - and then matches my new feeling of optimism towards the world and my short life. Referring to "The Ashes", I think Danny means it's the lowest of the low you can feel, in fact, you may feel like you want to do stuff to yourself to take your mind off your woes. But then to see all that is wrong and to realise that everyone, yes everyone, has choices that they can make. You either carry on feeling sorry for yourself, or you rise up and leave and see the endless opportunities that life offers. The first verse is amazing, but a little background on my beliefs first. Everyone comes out of the womb in the same manor and from that point forward the person you are today is the sum total of your experiences. If you're proud of the person that you are, then you should have no regrets from the past, no matter how bad they are, because they shaped you to the person you are today. I've waited - I was patient, I let things run their course without rushing it. And given the chance again, I'd do it all the same - would I be feeling so optimistic right now if I hadn't been through my bad times? I'm always outplayed, up on your down days - We tried, but it was never going to be right Left it the right way to start again - despite all that happened we kept our dignity and respect for each and we can still enjoy each others company outside the shell of the time we were together. I think I've pretty much covered the chorus? The 2nd verse doesn't strike me as hard, but I love the line 'out of place, like a gem on a coal face'. Excellent excellent lyric. Cheers for reading, GG | |

| nolovenoglory i think u could be onto something now that i think of what u said while i read the lyrics again. the ahes could be a metaphor for something to do with like, being bumbed out, but rising above it and moving on. or even not actually being bumbed out but the person is trying to bumb out the narrater of the lyrics. i think the whole song is to do with like, dissagreements and just not being able to make a proper connection with someone and being like stubborn or whateveer....newho, its still a flippin good song!!!!! im also loving gravity by embrace-check it out.. | |

| This is a fantastic song, it's very moving, though I don't know why. It could be because it was introduced to me by my girlfriend. It's motivating, whilst reflective upon troubles gone by. | |

| this song is really good i love it - it's the kind that you can listen to whenever and it will make you smile my guessing is that it's saying that someone's really put them down, almost to the extent that they're dead *so they are ashes* but now they're rising again and just kinda trying to rub it in/let the bully*?* or whoever turned them into ashes know that finally they are ok, and they are rising above them like how you say that one day you will be better off/stronger than a bully? well that's my interpretation.. sorry if it's confusing.. | |

| I think the song is about the band themselves. Embrace had an illustrious music career many years ago. However, people stopped buying their stuff and eventually they faded away, dying like the proverbially phoenix in the flames. 2 of the guys were unemployed, 2 worked in supermarkets when they were writing the album 'out of nothing'. Basically the guys were broke and taking one last shot at the big time. Ashes symbolises the Phoenix rising from the flames, breathing new life into Embrace. Basically saying, "yeah we were down but were back so deal with it!" Great emotional song, you can't help but feel good when you hear it | |
