| okay here it goes... the characters in this story of song said watching someone stop breathing. that means they watched someone die. feel their arms and palms releasing. that still means they watched them die cause when your born you make fists with your hand and they have to pri your hands open and when you die your hands are open and they have to shut your hands. so the person they killed are now dead. the smell the color of the skin. when you die after a while your body gives off a really bad smell and you skin turns gray. so by saying "the smell the color of the skin" means they have been dead."all of this with your fingerprints" means that they are theones that did it saying that they didnt witness someone get murdered they did murder the person. "drive drive drive i dont want to get caught" is ovious basically they are running away because they dont want to get caught or they will be in serious truoble. "well say were innocent" thats talking about if they did leave any evidence they will just say thery are innocent. "there is enough to prove we are not" there are two people one of them is saying ot the other threr is enough to prove we are not meaning there too much eviedece to say we are innocent. "they will believe anything im packing all my clothes and never going to go home again."thats saying that people are gullible and that they will run away and never return home cause thats were they know them best. t"there isnt one thing we forgot you will see we will get away with this" which is saying we didnt forget anything the memories of what they did the clothes they didnt leave anything behind bascially and that they got rid of the evidence and they are telling each other they will get away with this murder. "my jenas you shoes we will throw away everything weve used." meaning they will throw away everything that they used when they murdered the person. "but there is still your worried mouth to match your worried eyes. the only two things left to find." they are saying there is still the guilt and your {consence} (or however you say it) and that they got rid of all the evidence but the guilt and the lies. "there no compromise so remeber this your hands are lies it is too late for ifs." which means there is no more promise left in there heart. the only thing left is the lies there hands have done to god cause not only did they lie to everyone but they also lied to god.and it is to late for ifs as in they already lied to god they already commited the sin and they are too scared to tell everyone what they did and repent. so forget about ifs. tehn the backfround if you notice says "murderer with you teenage eyes resist comfession oh the weight is so much my heart is hollow with this foolish thing ive done" which is saying you murdered someone and you watched them die and when they say resist confession means they wont repent and it is making there heart hollow from the stupid sin they choose to do. "we will go home and close the doors" means they will make a new home somewhere and close the door basicaly this says they are forgetting the past like it never happened." and pull the sheets up to our headsand sleep and ther isnt a thing that they can do." this is saying they are basically worn out and scared to they are pulling the sheets up to thier heads not over but up to their heads and sleeping as in they arnt going to think about it anymore its just going to become a dream and they are going to lie to thmeselves and there isnt a thing that the people can do cause they left they got rid of evidence and they are going to lie to themselves telling themselves that is was all a dream cause there too scard and ashamed to repent. thats what i got out of it what do ya think am i right? | |

| I agree that this song is about murder. Some people might be wondering why a Christian band would sing from the perspective of murderers. I think it takes a deeper meaning when placed in the context of Jesus's own words in the Bible. When the Pharisees are feeling self-righteous about all the ways they can keep the Law, Jesus tells them, "The law says do not murder. I say anger and enmity (i.e. hatred, ill will, unfriendly disposition) convict you of murder in God's eyes." Suddenly, the Pharisees don't look so "righteous"... and neither do we! I think this is a great scriptural reference for this song because it shows us that in light of God's perfection, we all fall short of His glory. We are all guilty of murder in God's eyes because we have all had an unfriendly disposition at times. Once again, Emery's music points us right back to our need for a Savior. Awesome song! | |

| If you wan't to take it in a literal way I would define it as murder. But on a higher level I think it could even be about a relationship, by just ending everything packing up your stuff closing the door and just forgeting about everything you've ever had with this person. Maybe that's a little farfetched or just the fact that I'm in the current sitution and can see how it might relate. | |

| K this is just a shot in the dark and I havent fully developed this idea yet but here it is--------- This song repressents the temptations of sin and the feeling of being able to rationalize sin....The lines---"I don't want to get caught. We'll say, we'll say we're innocent. And there is enough to prove we're not. They will believe anything."---and---"You'll see, we'll get away with this." represents the feeling that you will be able pretend that what you are about to do (some kind of sin...or sexual sin, im not quite sure) will be ok , it wont effect your life (causing guilt) and that you will be abe to disguise it and keep it hidden. ----In one line it says --"I'm packing all my clothes and never going to go home again."--- this line is showing the feeling that you can just escape into some kind of sin and live in without having to turn back, then in another line it says---"So remember this. Your hands are lies. It's too late for riffs. We'll go home and close the door"--- this last line talks about going home even thought the song was saying that they would never go home. Your hands are lies is saying that your living lies and you know it but instead you hide under your covers. After the singer realizes that he has sinned and that he cant do anything about it---"then pull the sheets up to our heads and sleep. And there isn't a thing that they can do."--- hey repeats the chorus (repeating the sin)------------ This song is showing that we as humans are stuck in a continous rut of sin that we ourselves cannot get out of and that we need help from someone else or we will continue to live our lives like this. | |

| Well, it uses the act of murder to show the psychological aspects of crime, sin, and guilt. One is obviously very nervous about the act; the other pretends to be almost cool about the whole occurence by taking charge, however seems paranoid is merely trying to soothe his own conscience. Basically the song goes to show murder doesn't pay in the end as the murderer becomes the victim of his own fear and folly. It will probably destroy him one way or another (like the Tell-Tale Heart or the Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe). 1 2 Next | |

| First of all, this song isn't about sex. It's about what Kcf3106 described very well -- being trapped in the cycle of sin. The song makes perfect sense in the context of sexual sin, but I don't think it is necessarily restricted to that. It could pretty much be about any sin that becomes habitual. Second, a lot of Christian bands do this: they write a song that can be taken from a nonchristian listener's perspective and a Christian listener's perspective. The nonchristian would interpret this song as someone running away from murder, which makes sense if you take the lyrics at face value. However, from a Christian viewpoint, the song is a metaphor for being trapped in a cycle of sin. To address CombatChuck000's comment: Yes, that part sounds a lot like murder if taken at face value. However, the metaphor is comparing committing murder to a committing sin. This is the part where the character is indulging in sin. | |

| Well, dbark... i think that music is a form of art, and the most beautiful thing about art is you get to interpret it how you want to. And, my interpretation is that... (we'll say the guys cheating.) The guy and the girl's best friend are having an affair behind the girl's back. And the guy or the bestfriend is telling the other that they'll be okay, she won't know... but the guilty one is saying "She -will- know." Yeah... | |
