| My guess is that this song is about a girl cheating on him, repeatedly, and him finally standing up. Allow me to explain. "A mark beneath your the, I've caught you once again"--A mark beneath the chin is most likely a hickey. I've caught you once again is obvious. This isn't the first time it's happened. "there's that smile again (there's that smile again), you fake it and I follow you right in"--she pretends it's all okay and that she's sorry and tries to make nice. This ties in nicely with the theory of her cheating multiple times, he believes in second chances. Now for the part where he stands up to her and puts his foot down. 'Your words always cut when they're cliché But here’s my knife because I came for the buffet"--Words cut, knives cut. Here's my knife (this is what I say). This is where it may get a little tricky. I came for the buffet. First off, buffets can be (and for this example are) all you can eat (long time). To me this says : I'm sick of it, your words have hurt. Now it's my turn to talk (that was the knives). This isn't going to be a short talk, there's a lot to be said, I'm ending it now (the buffet). | |

| pretty sure it's a metaphor between a relationship where the bride of a man cheats on him. and the church, being the bride of Christ, cheats on him in the aspect of sin. if you're a Christian then you understand hiding your face from God, out of utter shame. | |

| "A mark beneath the chin (Uh Uh) And I’ve caught you once again" I'm not sure about this, but does a mark beneath the chin, mean he could be cutting her throat every time he catches her cheat because he can't stand it? But yeah, this is about a guy and his girlfriend keeps cheating on him, and he keeps putting up with it until now. And he used to fall for it because all she did was tell lies. I like it lots. | |

Bjorn Average |

| I think there's a mistake with the lyrics. It should be: "And leaving me to know, how much the meaning weighs." The song is about cheating like almost everybody suggested. I guess it's like that: It’s like a pencil with erasers at both ends [We're going no where with a relationship like this, and nothing ever changes.] I want it all but we’re dealing in percents [He wants everything she could offer, but it's not yet the full 100 % of her..as FSU Kelly suggested.] And these activities that you have engaged in [All the cheating and lying.] This is the politics of seeing you dance with him [I guess by politics he means..this is the ugly truth of something quite simple, like you dancing with him. Politics is never really true and people are always being taken back and forth..so he's just telling her..that you've been lying, saying it's just a dance and all that.] We began with concluding THE MARKS Break up the pieces and examine the parts [Basically here he means, he's just analyzing the broken relationship. He's picking up the pieces and trying to see where each part went wrong and all.] Your words always cut when they're clichéD [He's telling her that your words have become clichéd. Like she always has the same excuses and the same ways and styles of flirting with him and pretending she's honest. And now he's telling her..it hurts when you're always lying like that.] But here’s my knife because I came for the buffet [Here, I totally agree with matthiasnotjudas. Because it means but now it's HIS turn to hurt her, his turn to cut her. And that he came for the buffet, as in he came for the big long talk that yes, as matthiasnotjudas said, he has A LOT to say to her..and a lot of different things to say in order to hurt her. Because a buffet has a lot of different kinds of foods. And he's gonna feed her her own medicine and much more now.] This is the way it goes With you a part of it Nervously saying words That oh-so-tightly fit [This is the way things always are. You're a part of this evil scheme and you are cheating. You're nervously making up lies and saying words that still, in spite of them being untrue, still seem to fit and make sense.] A mark beneath the chin (Uh Uh) I’ve caught you once again [I guess by "a mark beneath the chin", he means..this time I'm heading straight to your throat. Because when you slit someone's throat, he dies straight away of course. So he's saying..this time, it's just gonna be straight forward, because I've caught you once again cheating on me.] It’s in the way you sell every word and phrase Believing me to know how much the meaning weighs Saying that but meaning this (Uh Uh) Using hands for emphasis [It's in the way you form your words and sentences when you're talking to me. Like he's telling her, you carefully weave your words and sentences so that they are ambiguous and strange, and you leave me to try and figure what they exactly mean. And how much truth is there to the meaning I've interpreted. And it's never 100 % true because she says something yet means something else, and he can never be sure of what she means. And yet she uses her hands to make her words seem clearer and more convincing, even if they're lies.] You’d like to think that you’re the best part of me But I confess there is nothing left of you here (nothing left of you here) [This is obvious, he's telling her..that she thinks she's everything in him and everything to him, but things have changed and she's nothing to him now.] These parallels and silly games Hide your face and say the name Say the name (say the name) [These silly games and lies of...as shotgunn_wedding already said, it means that when someone's cheating they ask him to just say the name of the person they're cheating with, and hide your face resembles shame.] And the outro should be..I think: That dress and those eyes are telling white white lies White white lies That dress and those eyes are telling white white lies White white lies And he means..when he looks at her, wearing that dress he probably loves..and with her eyes that he also loves a lot...he just can't help but think that all the lying..and cheating..is just..white lies..harmful lies. It just shows that she's so beautiful to him that she's become manipulative..and he can't resist her sometimes. I hope that made sense. =] | |

| I think that matthiasnotjudas is correct, it is definitely about a girl cheating on him. I love this song because it just gets right to the point. It is strong worded, and not easily digestable. I am not sure what the ending tag means, "Your black dress and your eyes are telling white white lies". Awesome tag, though. | |

| Your words always cut when they're cliché But here’s my knife because I came for the buffet I think matthiasnotjudas is right about the first line and a half here, but i think that his explanation of buffet is wrong. At a buffet, you aren't just stuck with one dish. You can take what you want and leave behind what you don't. I think he's saying that her words cut because she has said them so many times that they have lost their meaning and he's ending it now and going to get what he wants. | |

| Black Dress? White means purity. Well, my pastor told my friend she couldn't get married in a white dress, it had to be black, because she was already living with the guy ect... White Eyes? Well they're the lies that seem to be unhurtful, but lies will be lies....if this song is about the girl cheating on the guy....then yeah...sometimes we still give into temptation, he got married with her, but he still sees those "white white lies..." | |

| I think the beginning means that the relationship isn't going to go anywhere. If you have erasers at both ends, then you cant add anything new, you can only take away from what already was. And "dealing in percents" could mean that she is not giving him 100% of herself because she is cheating. ... maybe? I love the lines: Your words always cut when they're cliche, but here's my knife because i came for the buffet. He says them with such emotion and anger. Emery rocks! | |
