Lyrics
Sarah
Won't you tell me your name
I've been waiting here for hours
In the garden by the flowers
You're so shy
So just open your eyes
The boys all form a line to be written out in time
A long, long, long, long time ago
Emergency
I think I am falling apart
Emergency
I think I am losing the fight
And I don't know if I can do it
I don't know if I can try
I don't know if anyone asked me the reason I lied
She sighed
Sarah
Is she your new best friend
One day it will end, you know it will
You're so shy
So just let it fall apart
Let it stumble in the dark
With the razors in your heart
A long, long, long, long time ago
Emergency
I think I am falling apart
Emergency
I think I am losing the fight
And I don't know if I can do it
I don't know if I can try
I don't know if anyone asked me the reason I lied
She sighed
She sighed
Emergency
I think I am falling apart
Emergency
I think I am losing the fight
And I don't know if I can do it
I don't know if I can try
I don't know if anyone asked me the reason I lied
She sighed
She sighed

i htink this song is about a relationship, its becomming too difficult for him to keep it together and hes letting people know "Emergency I think I am falling apart" - he can't take it anymore "Emergency I think I am losing the fight" - he can't keep her anymore "And I don't know if I can do it I don't know if I can try I don't know if anyone asked me the reason I lied She sighed" -he doesn't know if its worth it she sighed" - she knows its the end.

Heres something i heard through a friend, Jason (so he gets the credit): I saw them play live, well on tv. And he said "sarah is a friend of mine, and she said, "write a song about me" so I said, Okay! but you might not like it!" So it's about a friend.

ok in my opinion this song is about a girl with an terminal illness and to me it just makes more sense then relationship problems "Sarah Won't you tell me your name" Ok if you have ever passed out and woken up in hospital usually to test you memory the doctors will ask you silly questions like whats the date and whats your name "I've been waiting here for hours In the garden by the flowers" also in hospitals they will build little gardens in there so you can relax so this guy was waitin there while she was unconcious "You're so shy So just open your eyes" im not to sure about this part but i think they were tryin to test her eyes "The boys all form a line to be written out in time A long, long, long, long time ago " this coud mean 2 things 1- "the boys" are her doctors and they are all tryin to figure out whats wrong with her but they have done it alot of times so there work will go unnoticed 2- or the boys could mean her friends are coming to see if she gets better "Emergency I think I am falling apart" now this is the smart part in the song where the emergency is played out like an ambulance siren and sarah is sayin i think i am dyin. "I think I am losing the fight And I don't know if I can do it I don't know if I can try" another bit on how she is sayin she doesnt know if she can go on with the treatment to her illness "I don't know if anyone asked me the reason I lied She sighed" this part confused me but she may have lied to her family and friends about gettin better or they could have lied to her "Sarah Is she your new best friend" this could mean the nurse tryin to help her as some times a patient and nurse can get attached to each other "One day it will end, you know it will" the doctor tellin her the treatment isnt working "So just let it fall apart Let it stumble in the dark With the razors in your heart A long, long, long, long time ago" now this part is up for interprutation and my take on it is that she mite be considerin stoppin all treatment and just giving up this is only my take on it and it may not be right in parts but i believe i got the general idea of the song and seein how the song repeats itself i dont need to repeat my explanation :P

Thanks to eskimo joe for writing such an awesome "sarah song", I've finally found one that I like! To me, it sounds like he's talking about this girls fight with depression or something and there's nothing he can do. He says, "you're so shy" and the mention of the "razors in your heart" sounds pretty ominous. "emergency", sounds as if he's struggling to help her with this. I'm not sure about the lines about it being a "long time ago" though.... Awesome song either way.

Without a doubt, my favourite Eskimo Joe song... This song is sad, even though the guitar riffs and extremely harsh lights in the video clip makes me want to jump up and down. I love this!

This song means a lot to me be because it was written about me, even though Eskimo Joe probably won't ever admit it. Today I have decided to be open about the song, as I have tried to keep it quiet. A few years ago I met one of the band members. Due to the situation I was in, I didn't give him my real name and I instead gave him a pseudonym. From my first impression, he was really nice and down to Earth so I told him that I had given him a pseudonym, yet for some reason I gave him another pseudonym. We were hanging out for a while until I realised who he was. We talked for hours and shared several personal experiences. I then told him that both names I had given him were fake, and that my real name is Sara. I told him that he should write a song about me. I said it would be popular because everyone knows a Sarah. I gave him a couple of reasons why I thought he should write about me. I told him nobody would believe me anyway. He said that he would actually write the song and I told him I didn't believe him, unless I actually heard it. He invited me back to the apartment to continue our conversation and meet his other friends. We exchanged numbers and I agreed to meet up later during the next day. I was at a stage in my life where I felt somewhat lonely and going back to his place was not the best thing for me, even for the 'famous' factor so many girls long for. Later, the song was released, the song he assured me that he would write. Lyrics: 'Sarah, Won't you tell me your name' is without a doubt referring to when I initially provided him with pseudonyms (as I still often do with people today). 'I've been waiting here for hours, In the garden by the flowers'- I never arrived at his place as I had told him I would. 'You're so shy, So just let if fall apart, Let it stumble in the dark, the razors in your heart, a long long long long time ago' - During a 'd and m' I shared with this band member aspects of my sad/chaotic childhood. So this part is most likely referring to the way I hold back my true personality and often make up a lie of my life (so that people don't feel sympathy for me). I think that this particular band member felt that I 'deserved' to have something positive in my life - the song has done that! I appreciate it immensely, even if/when Eskimo Joe don't admit that this is the real meaning. So there, now you know the real meaning of the lyrics! If you have any questions or comments my email is wont.youtellmeyourname@hotmail.com and Myspace URL is www.myspace.com/pixielicious Or you can ask Eskimo Joe themselves and see what they have to say... 1

I love this song. Probably because it's awesome and because my bf's name is Joe... and my name is Sarah lol. This song kind of paints the picture of a guy who is giving up on his relationship (I think I am losing the fight) no matter how hard he's trying... and he isn't being totally honest with why he thinks his relationship isn't working out (I don't know if anyone asked me the reason I lied). Maybe it's because his girlfriend is one of the biggest bitches he knows (ok, I know that sounds really stupid but hear me out..). It sounds to me like she's always changing friends and being fake (Is she your new best friend? One day it will end, you know it will). And maybe they're breaking up because she's always leading guys on (the boys all form a line to be written out in time) even though she has a boyfriend or they're just attracted to her or whatever, I don't know... Or maybe she's really innocent and shy (You're so shy) and she can't voice her emotinos and she's not trying... Lol, just my opinion. Peace xo
