Title: I Need To Wake Up
Artist: Melissa Etheridge
Written by: Melissa Etheridge
From the film - An Inconvenient Truth
B\E
Have I been sleeping?
Asus2 E
I've been so still, afraid of crumblin'
B\E
Have I been careless?
Asus2 E
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Asus2
Take me where I am supposed to be
F#M
To comprehend the things that I can't see
E
CHORUS: Cos I need to move
B
I need to wake up
F#M
I need to change
Asus2
I need to shake up
E
I need to speak out
B
Somethin's got to break up
F#M
I've been asleep
Asus2 B Asus2 E
And I need to wake up now
B\E
And as a child
Asus2 E
I danced like it was 1999
B\E
My dreams were wild
Asus2
The promise of this new world
E
Would be mine
Asus2
Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth
F#M
To listen to an inconvenient truth
E
CHORUS: That I need to move
B
I need to wake up
F#M
I need to change
Asus2
I need to shake up
E
I need to speak out
B
Somethin's got to break up
F#M
I've been asleep
Asus2 B A
And I need to wake up now
B
I am not an island
Asus2
I am not alone
B
I am my intentions
Asus2
Trapped here in this flesh and bone
E
CHORUS: And I need to move
B
I need to wake up
F#M
I need to change
Asus2
I need to shake up
E
I need to speak out
B
Somethin's got to break up
F#M
I've been asleep
Asus2 B E
And I need to wake up now
B F#M
I want a change
Asus2
I need to shake up
E
I need to speak out
B
Oh somethin's got to break up
F#M
I've been asleep
Asus2 B
And I need to wake up now

| i saw the documentary and it was definately the scariest film ive ever seen. this song says it well- i ned to change, i need to shake up, i need to speak up. americas putting everything they have into fighing this was on terror but as is proved in the inconvenient truth, the area where the twin towers used to stand will soon be underwater if we dont do something about global warming. wake up and speak out before its too late... i love the message of this song!! | |

| i watched the movie and it scared the hell out of me. the words "I need to wake up I need to change I need to shake up I need to speak out" pretty much say it all for me, i cant just sit around doing nothing. i have to act on my feelings so somthing actually gets done about this issue! beause too many people just seem to not care | |

| this is a great song to pair with a great movie. everyone should try to get it played at their school with free student admission. that's when I saw it and my life completely changed. it's not a tree hugger thing where they're like if you don't take shorter showers there will be less trees. it's more like now you know why hurricane katrina happened. it's all going on now not in a thousand years, so we all really need to do our part to help. whether it's taking the train instead of getting a ride to school or getting flourescant light bulbs instead of regular. | |

| Unrequited yearning. She's wondering whether the object of her desire even has the same kind of urges. | |

| I totally agree... that's why I added this song, it has changed my life so much, as well as that movie. I'm acting out and taking better care of a lot of things. I also started a Save Our Earth club at school.. We do fundraising and recycling.. the money goes towards new trees and better electricity... | |
