i love the lyrics to this, but the music is if-y. i don't know. it just seems a little too hardcore for the subject, but i do love the guitars-- i'm just saying maybe they could've made this one softer and left the guitars for the more hardcore songs. =\ still evanescence though, so it's still amazing.

Basically its about Shaun. How his problems were like a weight on her. But now she is free, and not the same person she was like when she was with him. A definate "i am woman, hear me roar" song lol.

xrockinlelex, the lyrics "my suicide" isn't in this song, you are referring to the song tourniquet, i which it is fitting, as the song is all about her pretty much drowning in her misery.

another song where she is the victim of some ex who somehow made her life a misery...probably by forgetting their 2 week anniversary or not kissing her backside 24/7....but oh look she's getting strong again....why is it all the songs are pretty much about the same thing...funny that she said each song had a life of it's own yet the themes of most of them is the same.

to me this song is about letting go of the past and people that used to love you and that you cant holdon to the past forever my fav lines are def- If you love me, then let go of me I wont be held down by who I used to be she's nothing to me this explains the song a lot all i wonder is why at the end it says my suicide. i think its because shes sayin her past is like her suicide and she dont want to go back to it again.

i heard that this song is about how amy knew that people were going to judge her/the band about the new album and how it's different than fallen. 'i won't be held down by who i used to be', i.e. musicians can't keep writing the same music over and over, and as she changed as a person the way she wanted her music to sound changed too. i think the 'if you love me then let go of me' part means if you liked my past stuff get over the fact that my newer music might sound different and enjoy how my writing has grown. the weight of the world is being pressured by people's expectations to write the same type of stuff as she did before versus what she wants to write.

amazing music, at first i admit i didnt like it so much but its very strong and good song. its really weired to hear those guitars, this song particulary is not evanescence and this is what i like about it! its differant! and will you stop sticking love to everything, not everything is about ben and her and probably nothing ever happened between them, so stop! for christ sake! i love evanescence i dooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

This is a very strong song. I like the lines "I won't be held down by who I used to be" I keep telling that myself all the time. I think it's about someone who doesn't let you be who you really are and you feel pressured. When you try to free yourself the person still clings to you thinking he loves you but you realize that you can only be happy if the person leaves you and "lets go".

i think this song can be interpreted as "if u care about somebody then dont keep them held down, let them be who they wasnt to be" but thats a more simpler interpretation

I think lakini521 is correct; Amy did say that the song was about the feeling the pressure from the media and the public, and saying the band won't be brought down by criticism of "Oh this new stuff is weird, why don't you write normal songs like you did on your last album/when Ben was with you?" and they're basically going "NO, we love the music we're making and it will be about how we are NOW, not about the past." "Still in the dark, can you fix me?" -- The "dark" refers to Ev's old songs, how they were mainly about sadness and crying for help. In this line she is asking those critics, "If you want me to write dark and depressing music, if you're living in my past so much, then how do you expect me to grow up and to heal myself?" Alternatively, this could be about the getting back together with an ex. He wants her, but first demands for her to be the same person that she was last time, even though he has seen the changes in her/the way she had suffered ("Like all my screaming has gone unheard"). But she refuses, telling him that too much has occurred since then, she is so much better now and she will NEVER revert back to the person she used to be.

it's doesn't really remind me of Lacuna coil. The lyrics remind me that within temptation would right. Well that's my opinion. Or when ben told her she can't write that and hold her back.

the music-box sound is really creepy. this sounds sorta like lacuna coil (another pseudo-goth band), but less heavy and a bit slower. in this song, amy wants her love (shaun?) to leave her for her own good.
