In response to WishingForYou's comment, it might indicate some kind of deeper connection stretched over a longer distance; as though two people are so close they can feel each other's presence constantly, but are too physically far apart to actually hear one another. An amazing song, just wonderful. I love the "swim lonely" part, but I can't imagine what it would mean...

I'm kinda glad you said that as I wondered which song Amy wrote by Terry's bedside - it makes sense now! "I can't see your star" - meaning that he's going to survive so his star isn't there?

This song is about Terry's stroke? How Amy was there for him, she thought he was going to die, if he did, his life would be like a star in the sky to her. Yet he didnt.

amy came up with this song when she was feeling homesick in lisbon. " couple of years ago, I felt so alone that I was dreading going on tour. We had just arrived in Lisbon and I was in my room feeling jet-lagged, weird and tired. I had just been home where I could see the stars at night. But when I looked out the hotel window in Lisbon, I couldn't see anything because we were in this big city. That was the last straw. I felt so depressed, I just started singing this song." I really like the new album. You can't judge it by the first single. The whole album's very different from it.

I love this song. I was reading the lyrics and, I find it interesting that, in the bridge [I suppose that's what you would call it], Amy Lee sings, "Why can't you feel me calling your name?" The first time I heard it, I thought she said "hear". Question: Why does she say "feel"?

I live the line: "why can't you feel me calling your name?" This song is so nice and this line is especially powerful. Although many of the songs on this album have somewhat specific meanings i think they can still relate to your life in some way. btw. this is my favorite song on the album next to Lose Control. Nice Album.

I didn't know that Terry had a stroke until I read these comments. Wow, am I slow or what? But yeah, this song has a beautiful vibe to it. And I feel drawn to it, when it's on on the CD I turn it up. It's a very touching song, and I will have it in my mind forever ^_^

^ Think of a cruise ship (hehe), and imagine the whole ship is destroyed and everything is in 'parts and pieces', with all the little survivors stranded in the water, swimming in every direction for land or a rescue team - anything to save themselves. The line just means that all Amy's different feelings and emotions (eg. sadness, happiness, love, fear etc) clash in her mind so much that in the end she is totally lost about what she *should* feel. She then has to find a way to solve each emotion separately, and do it with no-one else's help - she has to "find her own way out" of the wreckage. That's just what I think anyway (hope it makes sense somehow).

This song reminds me of Terry's stroke. The third line reminds me of the way someone would wait by a hospital bed for someone to wake up.

actually, she wrote this is Lisbon when she was depressed, because she was having a bad day and then she looked out the window to see the stars but there weren't any there; thus driving her over the edge a little, i guess. it makes more sense with the terry thing. i don't know, it's what i read in an interview. either way it's pretty. :)

I don't think this song is about Terry's stroke....I mean amybe there's some influence about that in there but Amy wrote this during the fallen tour when she was in lisbon Germany....she said that she has just gotten home and sat down by the bed to see the stars so she could get away from everything...but because of the lights outside she couldn't see them....hence I can't see your star. and the whole and I'm alone now...this is when shes feeling so alone and yeah.... -Jake 1 2 Next

I agree call me when you're sober is completely different from all the other songs on the album. When i first heard it I was like oh no don't tell me they've changed completely. But even though I thought that I still made my brother get the album the first day it came out and I'm so glad I did because the album is marvelous. And you know I can't belive people don't love some songs on the album because every single on of them is brilliant. But anyway about this song... I really like it, the starting is quite slow and I don't really like slow songs but after the intro it just gets amazing.

As much as people say this song is annoying...I think the instrumentalization in it makes up for it. Well, it would make sense if this is Terry's favorite song because the guitar's pretty damn good. The music starting from around 2:35. Very Nice. Sorry I'm focusing on the music 'stead of the lyrics, but the people here pretty much covered that part of the song.
