This song is nothing short of genius, as most of Max Collins songs are. This one has an Elvis Costello-double-layered feeling to it. It appears to be about some guy facing his fears, but when you really read it and realize its about a guy going to get an HIV test, the it all makes sense. "if there is a next time, ill cover up."--gotta love that.

I never realised this before I came on here, but the HIV/AIDS thing comes out so obviously when I think about it! I thought it was just a guy with some problems and he wanted his girlfriend to tell him it was all alright and accept him for what he is and treat him like nothing's changed (spend the night), but now I spose all this could be applied to the HIV meaning too! Unless I knew that the guy who wrote this tested negative for HIV and it was all alright, I wouldn't have been able to tell. 'I am fine' could mean he'd come to terms with it.

It's about the HIV test, Max has stated it before.

he wrote this song after he was tested for AIDS - obviously everything worked out fine "I took a ride to meet an enemy to end all the madness And now I know that I'll be fine I am fine "
