I LOVE this song. Gives me the chills every time I hear it. It really helped me out after I broke up with my girlfriend. Basically, to me, the song is about knowing the breakup had to come to an end (He makes how the relationship ended ambiguous on purpose, I think) even though both people still loved eachother. For him, as for, it's too painful to just try to be friends when you know something more is there. So as much as he loves her as a friend, he can't keep contact because it would be too painful. What's interesting about this song is the narrator is fully aware of this, and aware of how bad it sucks, but he also realizes that it has to be done. It's the "I wish it didn't have to end, but god damn that was good" stage of a breakup, exemplified by, "Every good time, golden". In short, he knows he'll eventually grow and overcome the heartache, and it will make him stornger, but right now it's still difficult.

lmao @ "You love to suck, good friend"...but anyway. The best lyrics by far are "But I can't call you up no more, and no we can't just be friends." Incredibly sad, and yet amazingly sincere.

okay. the lyrics are most definitelly wrong. These are the lyrics from the booklet from the cd. You're really gone, girlfriend the dryers on, amen. and I'm alone for the first time. You left a sock, girlfriend. where's the pair broken? Are you aware that I'm missing you? But I can't run to you no more to catch me when I'm falling. I know I have to let you go but I will not be broken. But keep the slowly fading memories. This place is strange, empty. You did your time, plenty. And the walls are bare where your pictures hung. But I can't call you up no more, and no we can't just be friends. I know it's time to let you go, and I will not be broken. For every tear, a lesson learned. Every good time golden, but now it's time to let you go and I will not be broken, but keep the slowly fading memories. I definitely agree that it's about a break up. Probably from a relationship that dragged on, or possibly they took eachother for granted. I think it's moreso saying that he misses the relationship, but not necessarily the girl.

I was so surprised to see no comments on this song! I find it's such a soulful song.. it's kinda confusing coz you don't know who broke up with who or if they did it together... but all I know is that it describes in a happy way a harsh break up. A great song to listen to months after your break up.
