Title: Everything to Everyone
Album: So Much for the Afterglow
Lyrics:
You put yourself in stupid places
Yes I think you know it's true
Situations where it's easy to look down on you
I think you like to be the victim
I think you like to be in pain
I think you make yourself a victim almost every single day
You do what you do
You say what you say
You try to be everything to everyone
You know all the right people
You play all the right games
You always try to be everything to everyone
Yeah you do it again
You always do it again
You say they taught you to read and write
Yeah they taught you how to count
I say they taught you how to buy and sell your own body by the pound
I think you like to be their simple toy
I think you love to play the clown
I think you are blind to the fact that the hand
you hold is the hand that holds you down
Spin around and fall down
Do it again
You stumble and fall
Yeah why don't you ever learn
Spin around and fall down
Do it again
You stumble and you fall
I wonder if you will ever learn
Yeah why won't you ever learn
Come on now
Do that stupid dance for me
You do what you do
You say what you say
You try to be everything to everyone
You jump through the big hoop
You play all the right games
You try to be everything to everyone
Spin around and fall down
Do it again
You stumble and you fall
Yeah you do it again
Spin around and fall down
Do it again
You stumble and you fall

| This song is about doing anything to fit in. Art makes it sound like he is talking exclusively about a girl, but he is talking about everyone. | |

| This is one of my favorite Everclear songs, but it's also depressing to me because it reminds me of the person that I'm trying not to be. Some one who tries to change themselves to fit some one elses ideals. I've known a lot of people like this, I think we all have, even our selves. | |

| I think this was everyones first favorite Everclear song on SMFTA. I know it was mine. I think the reason is, is that we can relate it to so many people or even ourselves. To me its basically about someone who is...well Everything to Everyone :P | |

| *Meh* This song seems to be about ME. ONly no Translated as you all seem to think. It's about a small, attention deprived girl, who cant get what she needs. Not from home atleast. She puts her self in situations that make her look bad and she doesnt seem to care. She is getting the desired attention and thats all that matters. | |

| to me this song is about how bad it is to be preppy. Basically preps care way too much about what people think about them, and try to be loved by everyone. Art says this is stupid. 1 2 Next | |

| This song is about a person who tries so hard to be perfect in every way. They try so hard to be that one perfect person and to do everything just right. While all along, they don't realize that it's nearly impossible to please everyone. To me, the person he describes comes off as one of those very goody-goody types who are slowly starting to break at the will of everyone else's expectations. And they slowly begin to realize that the perfect they try so hard to be is near impossible to reach. just my take on it, i could be wrong. | |

| The song is about two kinds of people that are "everything to everyone". The first kind are the ones that always make themselves the victims, in order to get attention, to make themselves "everything to everyone". The other kind is the opposite. These are the kinds of people, usually with large egos, who attempt to exert some kind of superiority in things, to make themselves feel like they are big people, so that they are "everything to everyone". Kinda like that macho bullshit. | |
