this song is so old. But it's still as great as it was when it came out.

Since the writers of More Than Words are purportedly "Christians", I doubt the song was written about a sexual conquest - although, that interpretation is certainly justifiable :) To me, the Lover is simply telling the Beloved, "Actions Speak Louder Than Words!!!" In my personal experience (I'm almost 40), if the relationship has gotten to the point where there is THAT much doubt, it's time to MOVE ON and not cross your fingers and hope the object of your affection will suddenly turn into a good catch. So, although I LOVE the music and even learned how to play in on the guitar when it came out, the words (and unfortunately this is the case for most Extreme songs AND love songs in general) are whiney and pathetic crys from people who are afraid to end relationships for fear of being alone.

oka..... i REALLY doubt this song is about sex... some fo you said the part where he goes "All you have to do is close your eyes And just reach out your hands and touch me" has sexual connotations. BUT read the next line-: "Hold me close don't ever let me go" it shows that they just want to be held... doesnt mean its about sex. its a beautiful song; don't try and twist the meaning to make it sexual like everything else.

personally, i think this song is about a guy who is asking his GF to prove her love not by saying it but by sleeping with him. "All you have to do is close your eyes And just reach out your hands and touch me Hold me close don't ever let me go " it's just my own opinion.

this is my fave song of all time.i dont think the meaning is sexual in any way.i think that the song is about a couple that has been in a relationship for a while & like all relationships it loses its passion after a while.the artist doesnt feel so close to their partner any more & doesnt merely want to hear the words i love u.they want to see it in their eyes.feel it i their touch.unspoken words is much more powerful.coz the artist says that what would u say if i took those words away.then u couldnt make things new just by saying i love u.meaning that dont take me for granted.i am still here.i still love u but if u dont make me feel that u still love me2 the words "i love u"wont fix things anymore & that they just might leave.well thats my interpretation...cape town south africa

You know, I just find this so sad that some people (won't mention names) are so horribly bitter that they connotate that even beautiful songs like this mean nothing more than "lie down and spread 'em." I mean, not everything in the world is about sex - the song is about actual 'LOVE,' which is something that goes beyond those couple hours that sex lasts - I think the meaning is that if you really love someone, you don't have to say it becuase your actions should speak for themselves, a kiss, a look in the eyes, mearly holding hands can be infinite times more fulfilling than having sex with someone IF you are really in love. Maybe some of the cynical persons that have commented on this should stop finding men who simply want sex and instead seek those that want love (and there are actually a lot of us like that) - your choice in partner eventually determines how the relationship will end. But enough from my soapbox - I just want to say that I think it is a beautiful song and wish some persons the best with their future, hoping they can overcome whatever emotional turmiol they may have or may face. 1 2 3 Next

ok. whats happened to all those hopeless romantics that i know are out there!!! this song is so beautiful! its not saying to prove love by sexing the dude. it's saying that words deminsish the emotion of love. the words 'i love you' have completely lost meaning throughout time, and by saying i love you, it's not proving much. if she just shows him through the way she looks at him, speaks, reacts to his mere pressence, the way she treats him whatever - then thats how he knows he loves her. actions speak louder than words. actions do not mean sex either. lalalala

this song is all about sex, the message behind it: prove your "love", put out already. see below... Saying "I love you" is not the words I want to hear from you {Because I want to get laid} It's not that I want you not to say But if you only knew how easy it would be to show me how you feel {"I love you" is chump crappy shit. You're going to have to do better than that.} More than words is all you have to do to make it real {More than words... in other words, get physical NOW} Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know {I'd have blown my load by then} What would you do if my heart was torn in two {Don't push me to walk on you} More than words to show you feel that your love for me is real What would you say If I took those words away Then you couldn't make things new just by saying I love you {Enough of the shit. If you don't put out, expect some cold treatment from me} More than words Now that I've tried to talk to you and make you understand {Here's the deal. Cut the crap. Put out. Any part of that you don't get?} All you have to do is close your eyes And just reach out your hands and touch me Hold me close Don't ever let me go {This is about as vague to sex as I get!} More than words is all I've ever needed you to show Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me 'Cause I'd already know What would you do if my heart was torn in two More than words to show you feel that your love for me is real What would you say If I took those words away Then you couldn't make things new just by say I love you More than words FADE OUT

i dont know if someone already said this because i just skimmed the comments but... this means to me that this guy's girl friend cant mend the relationship just by telling him he loves her because he is starting to see through her.... "What would you do if my heart was torn in two More than words to show you feel That your love for me is real [he needs more then the "i love you"] What would you say if I took those words away [the next two lines sort of gave it away for me] Then you couldn't make things new Just by saying I love you"
