Flickerstick (sometimes incorrectly called Flicker Stick) is a Denton, Texas rock band, consisting of lead singer Brandin Lea, bassist Fletcher Lea, guitarist Rex Ewing, and drummer Todd Harwell. First assembled in 1997, the group, originally a gig band that performed at parties, is best known for its appearance in 2000 on the VH1 talent reality show Bands on the Run, which involved four bands competing for $50,000 in cash, $100,000 in new equipment from Guitar Center, and a showcase for top record executives. Shortly after the show ended, Flickerstick signed with Epic Records.
Well-liked for their off-stage personalities, luck with the ladies, as well their as hard-drinking lifestyles, Flickerstick emerged as the winner, and their debut album Welcoming Home the Astronauts was released by Epic in November 2001. Remixed by Tom Lord-Alge, the album was professionally conceived and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, however its sales were disappointing. Although the group went on extensive tours to support the album, Flickerstick was released from Epic Records in the summer of 2002. Afterwards, the group signed with What Are Records, and released a live album, Causing a Catastrophe, in November 2002. After the album's release drummer Dominic Weir left the band to pursue his other project Mermaid Purse before eventually joining Smile Empty Soul. He was replaced by ex- Doosu drummer Todd Harwell. On October 14, 2003 Flickerstick released an EP/DVD combo entitled To Madagascar and Back on 226 Records.
Flickerstick continues to tour and perform regularly, and has a very strong fanbase especially in their homestate of Texas as well as the concert location areas featured in Bands on the Run. Flickerstick is (as of June 10, 2004), a commercial spokesband for Camel Cigarettes as well as Jägermeister.
