I think it could be both a relationship song or a depression song. First could be a relationship song because it could be about having problems with someone you know whether it's a lover, friend or family. Most relationships are complex and this is a good song to compare that to. This could even mean a relationship with depression. It could be like being alone at home and it's like talking to yourself, having a conversation with your emotions. And of course, it can also just be about plain depression and how this person is the only one that sees it.

at first i hated this song. then i was listening to it in my car and really listened to the lyrics for the first time. it's probably my favorite song on the cd at this point. and i really hope this isn't a typical hanson relationship song. i interpret it to be about being in a deep depression and not being able to get out. "Why don't you come on down so you can feel what I feel." - people don't understand how it feels unless they're there. "Sitting all alone in this place, even though we're here face to face." - whe you're depressed you tend to always feel alone. "There is nothing gone but there's something wrong/missing." - most powerful line of all i think. when you're depressed there isn't always a reason you feel that way. you feel like things are good in your life, you have what you need and get what you want on occassion, but nothing makes you happy. "Is there resolution for this pain that I'm in?" - the pain never ends. "Can't you see that I'm stuck here underneath." - and the obvious, i'm stuck in this deep depression. this shows their true song writing ability that they waste on love songs.

This song is way better preformed acoustically, but also good on album. I beleive it to be about a relationship that no longer has that spark. I do see the hints as depression, or at least how it could be interperated that way.

I completely agree with you. This song makes me weep just because it reflects just about every damn thing in my friendship with someone. It truly is a beautiful song huh? They've really grown with the lyrics and you can tell that they really mean what they are singing. You can totally hear it too

For me this song is about falling in love with your bestfriend. He's deeply in love with his lady bestfriend and he just afraid to make a move cause he fears if something goes wrong he will lose their close friendship. "The fear of losing you beneath my skin" So he's wating till she understands his feelings for her... Just what I'm going through right now .. :-( 1
