Hey--I was checking the current "Underneath" chords posted and noticed a few mistakes.
Now, I know that the A chord isn't in the key of G like the rest of the song, but they
do take that step out when they're playing (took me for bloody EVER to figure out that
THAT was the chord they were hitting...Those tricksters...). In the studio recording,
they just start out on the G with "Wakin' up this morning..."; live (like on Underneath
Acoustic or the UA Live DVD), they go through the G, D, C progression twice, I think

Standard tuning. Chords used:

G: 320003
D: 000232
C: 032010
Am: 002210
Bm: 224432
Em: 022000
A: 002220

I watched Isaac closely when I saw them in Pittsburgh in August (right after I'd figured
out the chords) and the following seems to be what he was doing (I was especially proud
when I saw him do the A in the chorus). Isaac doesn't play the Bm in the verses, but
Taylor might hit it on the piano. You can take it or leave it, I guess. Any comments or
whatever: resplendent_euphoria@yahoo.com.

"The fear of losing you beneath my skin" is one of the most beautiful lines I've ever heard. I also didn't like this song so much until I saw them perform it on the DVD, and the performance was absolutely haunting and totally got under my skin! I always interpreted it as two people at the tail end of a relationship, suffocated by it and yet unwilling to let go.

i think that this song is just about no one understanding what you are going through and just being on a different level/place in the world and people holding you back even though they dont realize it "sitting all alone in this place even though we're here face to face" just kind of that being in a different place "If only you could feel what I dream Maybe you could hear what I mean" just people not understanding what is going on with you and saying they know how you feel when they really have no idea there are a lot of different ideas and i guess they are all right from the way you are looking at the song!

This song makes me weep. A lot. For me (because I think songs can have different meanings for everyone, no one is wrong), it's about loving someone, and that someone is just not all there for some reason - they're stressed out, or having second thoughts, or whatever. You're longing for them to understand and wondering why you can't have that feeling back. Hmm. I hope that was coherent.
