“Everything You Ever Wanted” – Hawk Nelson
Intro: C5 A5 F5 G5
Verse 1:
C5 F5
I walk the line
D5
Leave it all behind
G5
I’ve been waiting forever
C5 F5
Let’s go back in time
D5
When I could read your mind
G5
Still I’ve been waiting
Pre-Chorus:
B5 C5
It took the seasons going by
B5 C5
To know it’s not my fault
Chorus:
C5 A5 F5
I tried to be perfect, tried to be honest
G5 C5
Tried to everything that you ever wanted
C5 A5 F5
I tried to be stronger, tried to be smarter
G5 C5
Tried to be everything but you
Verse 2:
C5 F5
It’s been so long
D5
Since you’ve been home
G5
I used to wait up forever
C5 F5
Used to say a prayer
D5
Wishing you were there
G5
And I’m still waiting
C5 F5
You told me once
You’d show up
D5
But I fell for that
G5
Before I fell to pieces
C5
Then I woke up
F5
To no one,
D5
Just a picture of Jesus
G5
And a house left in pieces
Bridge:
A5
I wanted you
E5
I need you
C5 D5
I want to believe you
A5
I wanted you
E5
I need you
C5 D5
I want to believe you
C5 A5 F5
I tried to be perfect, tried to be honest
G5
Tried to be everything but you

| i think this song is about divorce. his parents split up and he feels like its his fault. ("It took the seasons going by to know its not my fault"). because he felt guilty he tried to be perfect. but he still resented which ever parent that left him. he says "i tried to be everything but you." he didnt want to end up like him/her. | |

| When I went to Hawk Nelson concert in Orlando, FL in Night of Joy about 3 months ago main singer said "If your missing mom, this would be a good time to call her." before he sang the song. | |

| This song is about a kids dad leaving him and his family. Jason Dunn( Lead singer of HN) said so himself at a concert that I was at. | |

| i think it's possibly talking to a girlfriend about a past let down, as 'i fell for that before' is in past tense, and wanting to make something work... i love Hawk Nelsons' lyrics, and the way they often speak in metaphores and make you actualy THINK about it! | |

| wow... that was a powerful explanation. it means to me i dont turn out to everything that God calls me out to be. I don't quite live up to his standards because of my sin but I know that he forgives and forgets and in the end in his eyes im everything that he truely ever wanted. | |

| This song is really about the lead singer, Jason. I went to a concert with his band there, and before they played this song, he stepped up to the mike and told his story. He said it was about a boy who was abandoned. Jesus was his only look out, and God kept him safe from being alone. Although the boy felt alone at first (Jason), he didn't later, because he knew that God was there and always would be there for him no matter what. | |

| It is very hard to understand.. It REALLY sounds like he's talking about someone he cares about whether it's his partner or parent but I hear it on Christian radios alot and I want to know what it has to do with Christianity. | |

| Yeah I totally get that this song would be about a parent leaving but for me the chorus kind of has a different meaning. I tried to be everything my bf wanted (I tried to be perfect, tried to be honest Tried to be everything that you ever wanted) but at the same time I tried to not be everything his ex girlfriends were (I tried to be stronger, tried to be smarter Tried to be everything but you). I ended up failing at both... but thats ok because I have learnt a lot and have realised even more that no matter how big or how often we fail God still loves us! 1 | |

| I thought this song was about Jesus. The author feels his far away from Jesus, despite all their efforts: "I tried to be perfect...". The lines: "To no one, just a picture of Jesus" especially gave this impression. He's disappointed that Jesus didn't come, just His picture. So, I was kinda surprised considering this artist is supposed to be christian. Thankfully, songmeanings has given me a better interpretation. | |
