| This is a beautiful love song, it's one of my favourite HIM songs. It is about a perfect, pure, beautiful religion, what religion should really be about, and this perfect religion, is love. I'll try and explain some bits of it: --"I know my church is not of silver and gold"-- He is saying that in the religion of love, you don't need a big fancy church, you don't need expensive shrines and relics and things. It's the sentiment that matters, not how pretty material things are. --"it's glory lies beyond judgement of souls, the commandments are of consolation"-- It is not judgemental, there are no strict commandments to follow, and no risk of being damned to hell for all eternity. It is not about guilt, it is about passion and trust and warmth. --"You know our sacred dream won't fail The sanctuary tender and so frail The sacrament of love The sacrament of warmth is true The sacrament is you"-- A sacrament is "The outward and visible part of religion consisting of various ceremonies, words and symbolisms, producing an invisible action by the Holy Spirit that confers grace on an individual." By saying that she is the sacrament, he is saying that she is the center of this beautiful thing, she symbolises warmth and trust and love. The song is basically saying that his love is the greatest, most perfect, pure and wonderful thing ever, and she is what makes it so. | |
